my first suit

so I'm graduating college and instead of just having some ill-fitting blazers I need to invest in a legit good looking suit. I was in D&G today and saw a really nice black pinstripe suit that retailed for 1,100 but was 50% off. What is the most versatile type of first suit? Also I really like D&G cuts. Are there other brands I should look into?

Also, I need a nice pair of shoes.I really like these ferragamo revivals but they're a bit on the pricey side $550. Can someone suggest other shoes? thanks!!

Don't get a black suit unless you're an undertaker or you're expecting to attend a lot of funerals soon. Gray or navy.

While I know this is under great debate, I believe this no longer true as many fashion forward individuals who wear black suits. Some even to the office during the day. Having said that I wouldn't recommend one for your first or only suit.

As for designers with a slim cut, I prefer Ralph Lauren Black Label or Jil Sander. Both are a better cut and better quality than D&G. I have a charcoal 3-button roll Jil Sander suit and it is perfect for any occasion.

D&G suits are actually fairly nice for the price. I'm not a big fan of pinstripes but for 50%...i'd be tempted.

with that said, i'd also say its a suit, dont look to cut corners if you want a nice one. take your time and spend your money on a nice suit that will last you a long time.

is this for work/interviews or just to have a suit? if it's for work, in what industry? can't go wrong with grey or navy. stay away from something ultra stylish, or really really slim. RL black label, as someone mentioned, is a safe bet. if you're under 5'8" get a 2 button, if not either 2 or 3 are both fine.
