i'm travelling around the midwest in january for 11 days and im scared my EG parka isnt going to cut it. i want to stay warm but be able to move around and not be completely stifled by a massive coat.

i checked out a parka at Fjallraven which I was pretty pleased with, but i have no idea about their quality, and whether there is a better alternative for the price (the one i saw was 795 which seems steep).

tldr version: fjallraven = good or bad for the price? is there a cheaper-but-still-high-quality coat out there?

So i got one of the manastash my morning jackets. Thing is real nice. Cool construction, is quite warm, comes with a next level stuff sack to pack it in. I dropped it off at their office for a size exchange and someone jacked it.

You can get this for $50 cheaper at Context. The previous version of this parka is actually the one I bought for my parents. Same design except it was filled with synthetic microloft instead of actual down. Retail was around $500. Even with the down that's a pretty big price increase.

I left it in front of their door inside an office building with mail, i figured it would be fine.

Update-the fucking mail dude delivered it back to my house. So it didnt get swoop'd.

Getting the large soon and will post pix. The quality of construction and material was pretty impressive, and the ripstop material is like any other ripstop- subtle grid woven into the fabric.

Primaloft is in a lot of jackets out there, its a good material as its synthetic and does not retain water like down. I cant speak to the eco-pertex aspect, but i would assume it would not retain water as well, and the jacket compresses well. The stuff sack included is pretty rad, its made of the same ripstop/fleece stuff.

i got a rivendell then sold it, it wasnt what i had expected. Not to say its not good product it just wasnt for me. Made profit on ebay selling to someone in japan though

I have a Rivendell in custom black and blue and I love it.

It's very light, extremely comfortable on my back and I can carry a ton of stuff in it. I bike a fair lot and it is actually a lot more comfortable than a messenger bag.

I still want one of the Altadena packs though.

Finally pulled the trigger on Kalttermusen Einride from Unterwegs in Germany. Awaiting its arrival eagerly. Communication was on point with the store, but shipping thru DHL international is taking way longer than expected. Fuckin Garbstore raising my expectations for international mailorder with their 2.5 day order-to-door timing. Oh well...it'll get here.

and I still want a rivendell. Looks like a great new bag for the money. and to dude who has one and still wants an Altadena...save your dough. Its got the looks, and mine has held up for a year and change, but it is ultimatly NOT very well designed for load-bearing, and well....it's a fucking pack for christ sake, what else should it be for?

heattech is so legit. i grabbed one of those knit caps from the woodlands shop a couple weeks ago and its been great so far. 15 bones is a hell of a deal.

also, for anyone in NYC looking for some crescent stuff, check out cube on 7th between 1st and A (couple doors down from porchetta). last time i was there they had a few italian vests and a couple jackets for GREAT prices. my buddy picked up this beaut for $200 (only other place i've seen it is on rakuten for almost 6 bills):
