Clothing for The Great Outdoors

I really like when people link to eBay auctions. I know some people don't, but it can really help educate people. I know that I have learnt so many things from eBay.

For instance I quite like these Kelty bags. Though they probably aren't that suitable for urban use.

This Wilderness Experience isn't that useful in cities either, but it is beautiful.

These West Ridge ones are probably better

I hope this was helpful to some. I have been searching the Internet for a good backpack, but I have yet to find it. I know all the links are a little overkill and I am sorry if I am interfering with the free market.

I'm normally in the camp who thinks it's weak to post auctions that have yet to end in a thread such as this.

That is of course unless the poster puts me on to something nice, and then I win it.

Hope that wasn't you I was bidding against.

No, it wasn't. It's great that the bag found a good new home. The price is perfect and the bag looks amazing. Feel free to update with better pics of it.

I am glad that all the links were somewhat helpful at least :-)

Yeah, I'm a big fan of daypacks, especially the old simple leather bottom designs such as these. It's unfortunate that the SD sand North Face ones go for such big ticket prices these days.

Oh well. Prolly have too many bags anyway, but 13.50 is pretty unbeatable, and from the little that I know, the quality is on point too.

Cheers for the link.

what about some technical shells? any suggestions?

If you're looking for a old school aesthetic, White Mountaineering do up some good ones as well as The North Face Purple Label... but of course hard to get outside of Japan.

Arc'teryx seem to have something cooked up for this Fall with a new collection that is less technical looking.

I'll still ride for Patagonia (as I have often repeated) though I think their quality has declined a little bit in the past 5 or 10 years--then again, whose hasn't.

As long as they continue to stand behind their products with their near-unbelievable return/exchange policy, I'll continue to support them.

I'm really feeling Norrøna - Norwegian brand, been around for a while. Just showing up in the states now at backcountry.com.

The Paclite shell is sick. Quality is superb.

This one is craze.

A few other nice technical pieces on their site - norrona.com.

Otherwise I'm backing Patagonia, 66 North and Burton AK for technical outdoors wear.

Man, I was so excited when I was looking at the South2West8 site until I realized they're jp based; still awesome stuff, but I thought that finally a US store got it right. Still some awesome stuff, love the climbing jeans. shoes and day packs.

hopsack stuff made me laugh, reminds me of the line sheets from the hippy store I volunteer at once in a while.

Norrona is looking awesome too. Hope their website relaunch in April includes US distro. This jacket is tight.

I've always wondered, if people were interested enough, why don't we just fork up some savings and start our own outdoorsy US line? There is a market, and there definitely is a demand. I dont see why not?

(easier said than done, i know, but deserves some thought)
