A spin-off of the Indian Food thread...

My top Thai joints..

1) Flavor Thai (aka Taco Bell Thai) on Convoy in SAN DIEGO (For the vegetarians, the Mock chicken is your new best friend)

2) Thai BBQ in Cerritos, Downtown LA, and on Venice in Culver City (Yeah, I know it's a chain, but each one is slightly different. and that BBQ chicken is nuts)

3) Talay Thai on Santa Monica Blvd. (super cheap, super spicy. Buy 3 dishes, get 1 free? Life is good)

4) Mango Tree in LONDON (I'm usually down for the hole-in-the-wall joints, but if I'm gonna go big, I like to go HUGE)

5) Spice N Rice in DOWNTOWN SAN DIEGO (2 words: Tofu Curry)

thehundreds is huge.

Busabai Eat Thai on Wardour St in London is pretty good.

Quote: but if you want the best thai food,

cook it yourself..

But I kind of agree with this. IMO the best source for Thai recipes is David Thompson's gorgeously presented ( my copy came silk-bound) "Thai Food". It's far more than a cookbook, as it extensively explores the heritage of Thai cuisine and relies on the readers' commitment to gather the correct ingredients rather than just make do if you want to get the best out of the recipes. I've used it loads of times, and the food I've produced never fails to completely knock people's socks off.

Any Sakura in Singapore

U know what i am always scared of taking the real thai food in thailand, the food tastes great but the presentation really sucks. Totally crummy... but edible and perhaps delicious.

kahn toke - SF/richmond (beautiful place inside. a shoe valet takes your shoes and stows them in a closet, the tables are pits below ground.)

king of thai - SF/richmond (D. original cheap, fast, tasty and open late no doubt. there's two on clement, but i'm talking about the smaller one closer to 8th ave.)

suriya - SF/mission (pumpkin curry w/ chicken, the bomb!)

subuy subuy - Oakland/broadway (just fucking good, and i mean everything)

don't know the name or where, but when i had thai food in HK, it was just different then the sweetened up version of it here in the U.S. also served on fresh banana leaves which flavors the food and makes a beautiful plate/place mat. had a fresh baby coconut too. the top is hacked off and ice is mixed in with the clear water looking juice. you get a straw for the liquid and a long spoon to dig out the tender coco meat. god damn! so refreshing and thirst quenching.
