things to do in Amsterdam 11/24-11/27

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am making a trip to Amsterdam, just wondering as a first time visitor what I should do

there to get the full experience.

-Food/drinks

-shopping

-touristy stuff

also, any unique information I should know before I go?

will my charger in the US work there?

thanks

your charger won't work, get a converter at radioshack or somewhere else, they're only a few bucks.

other than that, amsterdam isn't as big as you might think it is and if you're there for more than one day it'll be hard to miss out on anything. there's the main shopping district, the red light district and a district with a few smaller boutiques behind the red light district from what i remember. but depending on what type of dude you are and who you're travelling with, the red light district is all the rage.

mike's bike tour

the city is very flat so its fun to go around on a bike and jump them off of curbs - and they take you out to the windmills :P

for shopping you just have to go to the PC Hooft... you take tram no.2 and there you'll find the best shops and @ the Dam you have Bijekorf.. that's a warehouse with tons of brands like boss, diesel, levis, armani, nudie etc. and opposite the bijekorf you'll magna plaza... that's the most beautiful shopping centre in whole Amsterdam imo... that's about it. then you'll have almost the full experience of shopping in Amsterdam.. have a nice trip

Go to the musems

Go have seafood and beef (check guidebooks)

Drink loads of Grolsch and Heineken (the ones produced for local market is loads better than their export version)

Go to Holland Casino and ... well try to win some money ( most people end up losing but then... nvm)

Really, do a joint. Where else is that legal?! And it's quite safe to be stoned when you are in a better coffeeshop. Make sure you ask for the best stuff they have haha

This is all random.......

On point right now:

Food

Pier 9

Wolvenstraat

Supperclub Cruise

Entresol

Odeon

etc.. etc.. (ask around)

Bars

Lime

Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ --> Don't miss this, the architecture is gorgeous!

11

BEP

Suite

ARC

Duivel

Suzy Wong

Clubs

Studio 80

Sugar Factory

Odeon

11

Pakhuis Wilhelmina

Bitterzoet

Jimmy Woo

Shopping

PC Hooftstraat for the obvious Armani, Prada, Gucci, etc.

PATTA / Ben-G for street and sneakers

SeventyFive for sneakers

Independent Outlet

Tom's Skateshop

Henxs

Bis!, Zipper and Episode (for vintage gear)

Droog Design

And as for the touristy stuff.. aside from the obvious stuff, try to find out about architecture tours. The ones that lead you across Java eiland and past the new Muziekgebouw are the mf issue.

Also don't spend more than a few hours in the red light district and the coffeeshops. It's too obvious.. and you'll only meet tourists.

Good luck!

Gandhi: "I think it would be a good idea."
