rrl recall

I went to the Polo RRL shop in Malibu today looking for a pair of straight leg jeans. They were totally out of them. The manager said that they had to send all the straight leg RRL's back. It looks like they're redesigning this model and needed to recall all the outstanding stock from their stores.

This probably means tons of $ 20 RRL straight legs to the outlets stores.

:)

It looks like the guys over at SF have an answer. The straight leg jeans have been pulled because of the Levis lawsuit. The stiching on the back pocket has been deemed to be too close to Levis so they will now release these jeans with a redesigned pattern. Thousands of straight leg rrl's will be showing up at TJ Maxx!

When do you think we can expect them at outlets and tj maxx?

I don't think they're going to send them to TJ Maxx. The point of the Levi's lawsuit is that RL shouldn't be able to sell the jeans with such a close pocket arcuate to Levi's design. I think if they were still going to sell the straight leg RRLs they'd just do it at full retail and not at closeout.

It'll be interesting to see what comes of all this. I wouldn't be shocked at all if the same jeans wound up on shelves back at RRL boutiques with the pocket stitching picked out.

That might just be the case. However, additional labor cost to do this in the states would be prohibitive and trans shipping them off shore would cost more. They may just eat this one to avoid litigation. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

This would make sense if it happened January last year, not about 14 months later!

I highly doubt that this is what Levi's lawyers had in mind when they were talking about brands discontinuing using Levi's styled arcuate asap...

CD, this is just what I heard from the SAs about a month ago, but they straight up told me they were sued by Levis. They've been moving away from their older arcuate and to the new one for several months but as far as shipping out all the straight leg jeans, it's been fairly recent.

Here's the old arcuate:

Here's the new arcuate:

I'm hoping they don't start putting that on all the new jeans. I'm probably not going to buy any but if I did I'd pick out all the stitching but leave the part that resembles the Levi's arcuate.

Unless there were some new actions being taken by Levi's that I don't know about, then this Lawsuit business took place January last year (the 20th irc, goddd, geek!!!).

(hmmm, perhaps RRL went to court and it took them all this time to lose? I'm not that deep into that stuff so I don't know how long it would take and also if the "infringing" product could still be on the shelves etc...)

Also hasn't that "new" backpocket sticthing been around for a while now?

Kixslf got his pair with that backpocket stitching in July last year...

Yeah, it's been around for a while, but I guess it's the new official backpocket stitching that is here to stay. I told the SA when I was in the boutique last time that I didn't like it and he said the tailors would be willing to pick out the stitching for free. I won't be buying any RRL jeans soon anyways, regardless of the stitching.

Constant Struggle, he's asking about some Levi's 501 STF style shrink to fit jeans RRL has come out with. They've got a cinch back and they are unsanforized. I've held them (they are indeed HUGE) but I did not try them on. They are not selling well at all, which might mean clearance later on, which is uncommon for RRL jeans in boutiques.

The STF cinch backs have standard instructions like go up 2 sizes in W&L but since no one has bought them there doesn't seem to be much to go by on sizing. The price is $295.00, which at full retail means I'd probably go with a different pair, but if they drop to around $100 I might consider getting a pair. I'd probably go up in size less than they recommend and soak them in as hot of water as I could get to try and get a slimmer pair of jeans than they intend them to be.

That would be great to get them for 100 bucks. I'm reading your post on SF but replying here: THE BOX IS SICK! haha. They really do look wonderfully classic.

I'm really pissed they don't make a size 31 waist because the 32 washed slim boot cut and a 32 chino were both big in the waist on me by an inch

My waist is 32" and I usually try to get a 31 if I can. However, my 30x32 RRL chinos are probably like 33" in the waist. fully stretched. I think a 29 would have been perfect but I couldn't find any when I bought them.
