Med school

you can go into med hating chem, i don't know what orgo is but if that's organic then yeah.

don't go into med for the money, because there's no such thing as easy money in med (anymore). if you're asian and your parents have condemned you to do professional health care, do dentistry.

and your major is irrelevant for medical school. do something you find interest in.

For those in the field (sufu doctors?!) or those applying to medschool/in med school: is it possible for me to go into med even though I hate orgo and chemistry? I'm looking into things I want to do for the rest of my life and its fucking hard.

im premed too and chem (lots of of fucking lots) and orgo is basically a req.

sorry i hate chem too just study with hot girls dat should def work

^^^^

i cannot agree with this statement more

its the biggest motivation to find the stupidest (yet hottest) girls in the class and teach them

that way you're on top of your shit damn near 24/7 and you stay like that so you dont have to say 'i dont know ask that other dude' or shit like that

any damn near any girl who has hit me up for ochem help at 4am the day before the midterm is almost certainly looking for a condesation reaction with a claisen head

and im not talking about lab

Getting into med school may be the hardest part of becoming a physician.

The material taught in med school isn't all that hard.

It's just that a semester of a college class is condensed into a week of regular med school i.e. you will feel like you are preparing for a exam, if not a final exam, every fucking day.

I thought orgo / ochem was hard because it was a lot of ridiculous applications.

I know kids who had 37 mcats and didn't get into anywhere.

Also, your performance on the standardized tests doesn't mean shit.

There's no correlation bet. it and the actual performance in the med school.

You might suck at USMLE if you did suck at MCAT.

I think I know so much about the process that I can easily write a book about it.

You can hate chem as much as you'd like, but you'll still be required to take around 2 semesters of inorganic and a semester or two of organic depending on where you apply. Not to mention that some places require a semester of biochemistry, bacteriology and microbiology.

I've been on a premed track for a while and I recently (read: yesterday) realized that it wasn't worth the hassle anymore. I'm now applying to the our business school (which is ranked 2 in the nation...woo) in hopes to finish up my undergrad with a real estate and urban land development degree. NO MORE SCIENCE.

Edit:

Here are the requirements for our med school. The numbers indicate how many semesters you need.

Requirements beginning with 2008 entry:

General Biology (with lab) 1

Advanced Biology (with lab) 1

Inorganic/General Chemistry (with lab) 2

Organic Chemistry 1

Biochemistry 1

Physics (with lab) 2

Mathematics (statistics and calculus recommended) 2

Ding.

Oh and the ranking that I was referring to wasn't the overall business school...it's the real estate program. Incidentally, their MBA Real Estate program is first I believe.

  • 1 year later...

yo WTF DO I DO

I'm a fckin Biomedical Engineering: Premed major but this major is neither accredited so I can't be an actual engineer if I don't get into medschool and I don't think medschools really care/appreciate the engineering aspect of it so it doesn't count as a "bio" major either.

I've already spent a full year doing physics/calc for the engineering requirements of this and I'm taking maximum units every quarter to meet the requirements of the major, and it's hurting my GPA...

If I switch to regular BME I'd have to take the extra ochem and bio classes to meet medschool reqs, but that in itself would seem to make maintaining a competitive GPA even harder

or, I could switch into bio, but because everybody is a freakin bio major I'd have to look "well rounded" and double major in something else, which would also be difficult.

It seems like there aren't any "easy" options and I'm well aware of that and am willing to work hard, but I really don't know what to do (other than to talk to my counselor pretty soon).

the way this BMEp major works, I end up taking bio classes way late, probably too late to take the MCAT and apply to med school w/o learning bio on my own.

i'm pretty confused/concerned so i'd just like some input/guidance

:\ thx

your problem: UCI lacks charisma and panache :P

you basically trying to triple major

i know you wanna keep your options open, but just stick with 1 and try to make yourself a "rounded out" person with things OTHER THAN study nerd shit (academics)

also, you a sophomore..(?)

plenty of time to change major..
