Quality hemming in London

tho chainstitching doesn't seem to exist in london, i found a tailor who does a nice little trick: the factory chainstitch generates enough excess thread when unpicked to use to sew a new hem! so this guy uses the original thick factory thread to hem yr jeans. it's ok i suppose if you don't cuff them and looked pretty good on the Iron Hearts i took in. anyway it's called Stitchcraft at 7 South Molton Street, london W1K 5QG. a real nice guy too :)))

How is it that we live in a globally important city and no one does decent denim

repairs or tailoring? I'm mystified.

Good tip GTA.

Have ago at evisu. They of all people should at least offer chainstiching. Being on of the few who have a large presence in london and with their japanese service london really does lose out while paying a premium!

maybe we should all club together and buy a vintage union special! the person who manages that in europe would make a killing. i even tried asking self edge if they'd do a decent hem if i fedexed the jeans lol!!

for the union special the bloke wants £1200.. quite a hefty tag.. but if enough people are interested, maybe i/we could do a special purchase on the machine..

i will put in half (and pay for servicing and importing correct threads etc.), the other half come from donations?

where, donations towards the machines purchase give the respective donators special privilages on hemmings (normal price £20).

ie; pre-donations of £20 will give 2 free hems when machine purchased.. donations of £30 = 3 hems, £40 = 4 hems and so on. donations of £50 or more will be assessed on some sort of 'gold card' system (1 years hemming, 2 years, lifetime. etc. and even cut alterations etc.)?

not a bad scheme. you could easily make money on that thing as you'd have a total monopoly - you could offer mail order hemming. is the machine in the uk or you got to ship it from the US?
