okay, so im selling my canon powershot digi in the local kijiji. and this lady messages me from another city asking for me to ship it and everything. she wants to give me the money paypal styles. im kinda hesitant because her writing style is a little "off"... like shes a little too friendly.. hard to explain.

anyways heres my question, if i get the funds then ship it through paypal. how is it possible for her to scam me (if she even is going to). like if she says the package never came and then files a claim or something... am i protected against that or what?

just wondering. i think im safe.. shes just creeping me out with her friendliness and its making me think twice haha.

i wouldn't sell something to a retarded person with a credit card, as evil as that sounds. how is she going to file a claim when you have information proving it's been delivered? if you're really afraid you can either get signature confirmation (really no way to get out of this one) or just don't sell it to her.

There are plenty of illiterate morons with money out there, not necessarily frauds. I would probably just do it, cover your bases - tracking, insurance, and withdraw the paypal funds as soon as you get it.

but you don't sound comfortable, so I would recommend you don't

Most importantly, you need to make sure that the address she wants you to send to is the VERIFIED address on her Paypal account. If you ship to an unverified address, you can't do a damn thing.

Also, get the names and addresses of her children, children's children and pets.

They can still pull the "item not as described claim" bullshit if they decide down the road they don't like it (or if they break/damage it).

I had this happen to me recently. Buyer claimed 2 weeks after the auction's end that what they received was damaged. Sent it back to me...guess, what? It's not damaged or anything. Obviously just a case of buyer's remorse.

Paypal sided with the buyer, of course, and I am about to be forced to refund. And now I have to go through the trouble and cost of relisting.

I never consider a transaction finished till that 14 day (or however long it is) period to file a claim has passed.

This recently happened to me also. A seller filed a claim against me after purchasing a pair of sneakers.

I went away for vacation for a couple of days and now the open case doesn't exist anymore. (I have no funds in my Paypal account to be transferred to the buyer's).

Should I be worried about Paypal transferring funds out of the bank account I have it hooked up to? Even though the open claim somehow went away, I don't know if the buyer will try (or is even able) to take another action against me.

Any suggestions to protect myself from buyer's changing their mind when there is no defect in the product?

You also have to be careful of the PayPal transaction itself. I don't know if scammers do this anymore, but they'll send you an e-mail with the PayPal logo and everything saying that the funds have been desposited in your account from whoever. They'll provide a link for you to check your "account", but it's really a PayPal look-a-like that says the funds are there. You should physically type in www.paypal.com and log in yourself to check if your funds are there.

If anything, you can set up a private eBay auction and get eBay's seller protection that way too.

this is her reply! i knew it was a scam!!!!

"Alrite good to finally hear from you but like i explained to you in my earlier mails you should have received the confirmation from paypal for the amount of money that was sent to you and perphaps you must know the funds won't reflect in your account unless you ship the item and get back to paypal with the required shipping info then you would get to gave your funds already my account has been deducted anyway i can imagine how you feel so it's left for you to complete the deal to get your money.

I hope this clears everything hope you could fulfil your part so you could get your money in your hands today.

Anne."
