Soaking your denim

if i soak the denim inside a pail instead of a bath tub, would the effect be the same ? will it shrink evenly all over, or will it destroy the denim and make it out of shape ?

logic would dictate that the jeans will take the shape of the container in which they are soaked:

soak jeans in tub = jeans will be tub-shaped

soak jeans in pail = jeans will be bucket-shaped

fwiw, i soak in a pail, but i am a bucket shaped person

i soak in a bucket... you can get water out of a kitchen or laundry room faucet a lot hotter than a tub faucet... at least thats how it is in my house....

I soak in either a bucket or the aluminium wash basin in the laundry. There's no way I'd trust indigo not to stain the white plastic surface of the bathtub.

you got separate knobs for h/w and c/w for your tub? or its 1 knob to adjust the water temp?

if its 1 knob, your shower body is out of wack... take off the knob and readjust the control.

I don't see why having the buttons done in any particular way would affect shrinking. You still have the same amount of denim exposed to the same conditions, so it should shrink in exactly the same way whether the buttons are done up or not.
