Retail interiors - which ones do you dig?

unlike myself, many of you are very well-travelled shoppers. what spaces have struck you on some "holy shit wow neat-o cool daddy!" as far as their interior design and setup go? which have you thought were terrible? and why is it that every "sneaker boutique" is either doing some gay theme, or is all brushed metal and glass and muted tones...you know what i mean, it's like there's one guy who designs every single one of them.

rivington club was dope, when they opened i don't know of any other spot doing anything like that. but they got bit so hard by everyyybody, it was shameful.

and yes, i dig the anything store as well. i really like the lighting setup they had in there.

i actually like club monaco. the lighting is tasteful, and for some reason i really like the fact the girls working there are dressed like hostesses at a restaurant.

i will tell you one spot that i dont like tho, holt renfrew toronto. for such a goddamn expensive store they somehow manage to make a lot of the sections look cheap as fuck. the sunglasses section looks like a bargain store.

L'éclaireur Paris - Rue des Rosiers is a beautiful space.

DPMHI London is a great store.

I liked Inhabitant & APC in harajuku : both stores feature wood based design from what I can remember.

Stores I'd like to see in person :

Slam Jam (IT) stores.

Undercover Taipei.

I am generally very neutral about these kinds of things. I really liked Dior Homme on Onomotesando though even though its really not very efficient for looking at the clothes. APC in Harajuku was dope too, as was HARE, both are very minimalistic.

What I can't fucking stand is stores that are just a bunch of empty space with a bunch of coathangers on the wall. No matter how stylish it is (Park in Vienna is an example, that place is hella stylish but I still dislike it), I always get the feeling that someone is watching me. Especially when its like 5 people working there and only 2 customers in the store.

also, i have never once set foot into abercrombie and fitch, however it really scares the shit out of me when i walk past. right in the doorway is a huge b&w photo of a shirtless young hunk, and i think the pipe some kind of perfume or cologne through the place. it's incredibly cloying and you can smell it from 50 feet away.

SOS, I know waht you're talking about. I too, have never been inside an A&F, but I've stood before the behemoth photo and wondered what the fuck people think when they enter.

loveless

bonjour records (girl/dog town)

and a (shibuya)

i can't believe that someone acutally thought hare had a good interior. very boring. jap industry minimum at best.

CDG in New York is still fun for me.

Balenciaga a few doors down in New York always looked cool, but the weird ass loading dock entrance was always a bit daunting to me.

I can't stand N(N), but I love the completely random location of it.

I went in one to pay out my little sister, this was last winter. quite an experience. they have two tools standing right behind the entrance whose only job is to chew gum, dress bro and throw a whats up when you enter. the music is so fucking loud and horrifying you cant hear your thoughts, which most likely would be to run the fuck out. ok so I bought a couple of nice shirts, 8 pairs of cargo pants and stole the poster.

my favorite stores would probably be 45rpm and L'eclaireur rue herold in paris. L'ec is just amazing, its a completely different world. Dover Street is pretty interesting too.

haha its true that it smells like they pipe fragrance straight into A&F stores, well in actuality they have some toolbag spraying the shit outta every popped collar shirt in the store, running around like crack junkie looking for his next fix in a despearate attempt to ensure every square inch any douchebag's purchase is covered in the scent..

anywayyyyyyyyyy back on topic

i agree with SoS, holts in toronto is shitty for sure.. most of the holts suck now that i think about it..

Bodega in Boston is pretty fucking cool, real working bodega in front, streetwear and sneakers when u open up the snapple door

45 RPM, however, is a religious experience. I want to get baptized there.

i would love to visit a 45 rpm store.. read really good things about the interior of 45rpm stores, and i need to go to one day i would fear how much i would spend there though..

2000db took me to L'eclaireur in Aoyama.

Pretty insane looking interior. Prices are out of control.

If you want 1,000,000 yen leather shirts, look no further.

Some ridiculously hot SAs, though.

BTW, there were some phantoms parked right by the store.

i heard NYC uniqlo flagship was fucking awesome

yeah, it really is, i was just there like a month ago. its huge, like 4 floors; i spent quite a while in there.

also, i really like the marc jacobs flagship on mercer in new york. they have these cool low tables with everything on them and nice wood floors

Nom de Guerre-tomblike and industrial that lets the clothes take precedence and keeps the uninitiated at bay

APC-a little rough around the edges, it feels like I'm drunk walking on the floors, but it still is dope

Alife-plush design based on a gentleman's smoking room. plenty of biters have spread their style globally

Nomad-austere layout with raw wood trees cut to display the clothing adds a unique touch

Dover Street Market-nothing else even compares. I felt that I was a little kid at Disney Land with the innovative merchandising and all of the floors and apparel and accessories.

Stuart & Wright-Tasteful Scandanavian design featuring blond wood and loft like feel is pretty inviting once you walk through the door.
