If I could only recommend one to anyone, anytime...it would be the greatest perfume every made...Mitsouko by Guerlain. Its perfect for any man or woman, its not too expensive, available everywhere, and although created in 1919, never dates.

Perfume is like music...if you love it the first time you smell it, chances are you'll overdose on it and get sick of it. Something that strikes you as interesting at first, but slowly moves to the top of your list will last much longer. Mitsouko is like that...strange, interesting, and possibly off-putting at first, but always grows on you.

Only thing I can afford is Dior Fahrenheit.

The ladies enjoy it, but not as much as the Axe shit everyone here wears!!

The reason why the ladies like Fahrenheit is because its based on violets....chicks like flowers.

Girls that are drawn to Axe aren't girls you want to associate with.

thanks for the input, will try to smell it somewhere.

tell me something though, how good is that sarrasins that you ordered?

i am contemplating ordering a bottle if i don't find any kind of samples anywhere, i feel strangely attracted to the bottle ahah.

at the moment, i wear harissa by CDG on a daily basis, and before that i was using chanel platinum or Dior Homme, but i smelled every single CDG fragrance a few months ago at a menswear shop(when i bought harissa. i shop at that clothes shop for about 3 years, but i don't know why,i never got to try the fragrances there because i thought what i had was good enough, and damn was i wrong about it) and all of them were very unique in comparison to what i had tried on before, so that was probably my turning point into caring a little bit more about fragrances and since then i have stayed away from mainstream fragrances. you mentioned sequoia, but i can't really remember that one, the two that stuck in my mind were Kyoto and Harissa.

Sarrasins is very nice...but you have to love jasmin....not just like it. It may be a tad on the feminine side as well. All the Serge Lutens come in the same bottle, but I'd strongly suggest you order samples first, because they're often very distinctive and a blind buy wouldn't be wise....given the fact that they're only available in Paris at one store, and don't ship anywhere outside Europe...and cost almost $250.

Sequoia is the star of the CDG Red Series. Its the most unique, and interesting scent they've ever made imo.

Smelling 25 bottles at a store is fun and all, but its not the best way to pick a fragrance. You'll just end up being confused. If you can get samples, make sure you do....it may seem like a waste of money at first, but will save you money in the long run if you're like me and just push them to the back if you end up not loving them as much as you thought.

Luckyscent has a sample service for CDG stuff....Serge Lutens samples can be ordered here.

i see that the link you posted for the samples is from a US website, but since i live in Europe anyway, where would you order the samples from if you were in europe?at least i will be saving a bit in shipping.

thanks

There's a store in Germany called First in Fragrance to order CDG samples. You can contact Serge Lutens directly and ask for the wax sample booklet.

Call me unoriginal but I love Estee Lauder's Pleasures for Men. It mixes well with my scent, isn't overpowering so very work friendly and lasts well in all seasons.

Have been getting regular compliments over the year or so I've been wearing it while at school and work so can't be just me.

gimmegimme, or anyone else...

i need a few reccomendations for a womens scent. im trying to pick up something for my girl for this winter. she loves the musc ravageur on me and has stolen my scarf because its laced with the stuff. i think she needs something complex, and not fruity and definitely not powdery. thoughts?

im going to look at mitsouko, and l'heure bleue by guerlain and le labo rose as a starting point.

does anyone know la chasse papillons?

Speaking of Caron; does anyone know where to buy Tabac Blond? I have looked all over without success. Apparently Nordstrom had some but sold out.

Its easiest just to call Caron directly:

Phyto Universe - 715 Lexington Avenue - NY, NY 10022 - 1.877.88.CARON

TB is only sold through their "fountain" line...meaning they fill bottles on request. Make sure you know which concentration you want before ordering (I believe 1/4 oz. of the pure parfum is $100, 1/2 for $150ish...also available in EDP).

le labo's rose is pretty masculine. Papillons is very, very light and "pretty"...doesn't sound like her sort of thing. Check out Cuir de Russie by Chanel, Bal a Versailles by Jean Despres, and anything in the Serge Lutens line....or just get her her own bottle of MR.
