You've gotten some very good no-brainer choices already.

I'll keep it simple. These are my favorite albums from each of the top 20 artists in my last.fm profile. Heavily slanted towards newer music. I would only consider #s 1, 2, 9, and 11 to be "classics", if that's what you mean.

1. John Zorn - The Big Gundown

2. Guided by Voices - Alien Lanes

3. Detachment Kit - Of This Blood

4. An Albatross - Eat Lightning, Shit Thunder

5. Animal Collective - Sung Tongs or Feels

6. Boris & Sunn 0))) - Altar

7. The Mae Shi - Terrorbird

8. Hella - The Devil Isn't Red

9. Lightning Bolt - Wonderful Rainbow

10. Need New Body - UFO

11. Sonic Youth - damn, I dunno. They're all fuckin epic.

12. volcano! - Beautiful Seizure

13. Deerhoof - Apple O'

14. Ex-Models - Zoo Psychology

15. Melt-Banana - Cellscape is the easiest 1st listen, Teeny Shiny is my fave

16. Oneida - The Wedding

17.My Morning Jacket - At Dawn

18. Les Savy Fav - The Cat & the Cobra

19. Comets on Fire - Avatar

20. Akron/Family - Meek Warrior

ILLMATIC

Kool G Rap and Nas - Fastlife

Chicane - Behind the Sun (his best work. the name itself makes me happy)

Chicane - Far From the Maddening Crowds (also makes me happy at mere mention)

Solar Stone - they don't have an album, get whatever singles you can, especially "Solar Coaster" and "Seven Cities" (such a classic).

Tupac. I don't think he is guilty of having produced a bad or boring record. He kills it everytime.

Yeah I wish it were '96/'97 and '01.

oh yeah other albums that i know far too well...

CYHSY! - CYHSY! (this is worth buying just for "In this Home on Ice")

The Postal Service -there can be only one! (TPS is good sometimes, I can live without it).

Idiot Pilot - Strange We Should Meet Here (great album, i don't need it yet but it's on its way)

Grandaddy - Fambly Cat, Sumday, Sophtware Slump (all their shit is so good)

I these are just some albums that I think are good from start to finish, and are thus worth downloading

El-P=Fantastic Damage

Outkast=Stankonia

Pavement=S+E

Roots=Things Fall Apart

Polvo=Celebrate The New Dark Age

Jeru Tha Damaja=Heroz 4 Hire

Flaming Lips=Hit To Death In The Future Head

DangerMouse=Grey Album

Genius=Liquid Swords

ODB=Return To The 36 Chambers: Dirty Version

Like the quote above says, these are albums I can listen ALL the way through, without needing to skip any tracks. All the songs are good. There's more, but I just can't think of 'em now.

coming from the guy who put in 'the rakes' as a must have. i should be the one laughing.

lol nAAAAAAh somehow I still think my choice is better than some shitty scandinavian pathetic bully victim music

anybody who looks like this is hillarious

opeth2005ql1.jpg

and for the record even though you won't listen to my opinion I'd just like to say that a lot of your choices have been abysmal.
