you're better off on craigslist. but a name like crate won;t turn many heads, no matter how great it sounds

This I know. I've put up a number of ads, but I never get serious offers. Just stupid kids that ask if it sounds a certain way or if they can trade me Charvel Strats or solid state Fender Amps + cash. Fucking idiots.

Thorns, I think PRS's are a lot better, even the cheap ones.

Gibsons win in looks and sometimes tone, but are really variable in quality and I think have an overall lesser playability.

PRS fatnecks feel amazing. I have two LPs. I would swap either for a PRS.

Well that Les Paul is a '57 reissue which is by far my favorite reissue they've made. The one I've physically laid my hands on is awesome.

The PRS I'm only thinking about because of the semi-hollow sweetness and the fact that I can plug it into both my amp and plug it into a PA to use the pickups and the pietzo at the same time... which is pretty sick. Kicker is I already have one PRS single cutaway and a first issue Schecter C1 classic neck-thru which I think plays just as well.

But I'd rather not buy cause I don't think either is worth the cash... I'm just feeling the itch for some retail therapy.

Just thought I'd throw in my few cents.

I'm a minimalist as far as guitar is concerned; I rock a Fender TC-90 into a tuner, into a Blues Junior.

That's all.

Nice. I'm so with you on this.

Danelectro U2 reissue -> tuner -> 15w Vox Pathfinder.

Little goes a long way...

I'd say try and find a classic Gibson, or just go with the one you can get your hands on. If I wasn't gonna cop a jacket, I'd probably get a new guitar. I've hit a wall in my planning and I feel a change of guitar will probably progress me. Who knows.

Why anyone would want anything with QUILTED OR FLAMED parts is fucking beyond me....

i hope thats not serious, i've spent some time in the shop that cuts alot for both martin and taylor and seeing that figured maple up close and tilting the board to make the flames or quilting seem to move around (or guitar for that matter) is pretty amazing... i'll have to try and find a picute of a guitar i saw that had figuring that looked like a shot from the hubble

It is serious and I stand behind it. I don't want my guitar screaming "I'm a rich ass homo trust fund queer" (no hate intended towards gays). I'd rather have my guitar communicate "I'm a badass, and yes, I DID pay $4000 for this", without being an eyesore.

so a 4000 dollar plain top is somehow better than a 4000 dollar figured top...?

and where does trust fund richer kid come into the arena from. epiphone makes some 400 dollar figured maple (albight be it laminate) that look OK without even a pricey tag. i doubt these "trust fund" kids would touch an epi.

also 4000 dollars is still 4000 dollars be it figured or painted top. and only the wealthy can afford to spend this much on a guitar regardless

and furthermore since when did your guitars paint scheme detemine your status and musical skill/ talent...

Jeez. And I thought the arguments about Maple vs. Rosewood were petty and hilarious...

You guys are cracking me up. I'm going to go noodle around on my masonite-top Dano, which I rescued from the wall of a bar where it had been spray painted blue and used as a decoration.

Nice - did you refinish that yourself? I dig.

I just put a set of Fender Custom Shop 69 pickups in my 68 reissue Strat, these things are lovely. I also put in a callaham bridge and tremolo block which did wonders. Definitely recommend both of these for anyone looking to get a classic/vintage stratocaster tone. yumm

Thorns, I'd get the LP. I just don't like the way those hollow PRS's look (or the Hamers that are similar)... if it were a McCarty or just the regular PRS Custom, it'd be a tough choice.

I haven't touched my Casino in a long while. :(

Prs is such a pussy guitar. Made for playing robbin ford licks through 10 watt amps by fucking lawyers who dont want to UPSET THE NEIGHBORS. Steve austin is the only person who does justice on a prs. He doesnt have all that femme wood on it though.

I borrowed a nice PRS the last time my band recorded, because my personal guitar was have some intonation problems I couldn't work out. It played well, sounded alright, but it looked so godamn lame. Made me feel like I should have a goatee to play it. Wack shit.

it seems like a lot of you guys know what you're talking about..

out of these two which one do you recommend and why?

fender ja-90 telecaster

OR

fender highway 1 telecaster

OR

any other recommendations for an electric guitar with a spending limit of $750

Out of the two, I would personally opt out for the JA-90 instead of the highway one - I haven't played it personally, but I have a TC-90 which the JA-90 is based off of, and it possesses more versatility than the highway one, since you have two volume and two tone knobs (the other has 1vol, 1tone). My TC-90 is a darker/smoother sounding guitar though with the combination of the semi-hollow-ness/ash body as opposed to the normal telecasters.

They're both amazing guitars with their own sound, which is dependent upon what you like basically. Do you want a darker mellower sound(JA-90) or classic brighter, grittier tele twang?

For a biased answer, I would go with the JA-90 because I like Jimmy Eat World and their sound.

If by "refinish" you mean "attacked with a sack of cotton balls and a bottle of acetone" then yes. ;)

The finish on Danos is nigh-invulnerable. That's why when you find the vintage models for sale, they all look so damn nice. They were cheapass guitars back in the day, and they're fairly cheapass guitars now...but they were built to last and can out-twang damn near any Tele out there.

Single-coil lipstick tube pickups, semi-hollow body made of the cheapest wood available, and masonite top. It's built largely out of the same stuff as tv remotes and 1970s countertops.

And yet...they sound great, play great, last forever, and you can fix them yourself with only the merest of knowledge of guitar construction and maintenance.

It's the Vespa of guitars. Timeless, stylish, and it does what it needs to, no more.

Just found this thread. Checking in with a '70-'72 (not sure) Gibson J-50. Never heard an acoustic so sweet sounding. It's light as a feather, resonates more than any other guitar I've picked up, and sings to me in overtones from the other side of the room when I cough/sneeze in my bed. I'm sure that sounds weird but I find it quite fascinating. I paid too much for it by the books ($1200) but I could've bought a $2 or $3 thousand D-28 that didn't sound close to as good. And I love a good Martin, but I still have yet to hear something I like better than this square-shouldered Gibson.

Edit: found a pic...ahhh bear claw

i used to be really into taylors when i was shopping around for acoustics, but then played a southern jumbo and fucking loved the sound. My brother's friend had a 1940s or 1950's Gibson acoustic that he just threw around, really a shame, but the thing was so sweet.

I'm really considering trading in my Highway 1 strat for a maraduer
