deep v's can take alot more abuse than other rims. I've ridden the same set laced to iro hubs for 2 years. i've been hit by cars, slammed into curbs, done some stupid little jumps and hit about a million pot holes and they've only needed to be trued once.

It depends who built it, but choosing that rim is a fashion choice.

A deep v is most definitely not solely a fashion choice... with the crazy colors it has become one, but it is definitely a stronger rim than most out there, wheel build quality aside. That will obviously determine the overall quality and longevity of a wheel, but when it comes to heavy city riding, a deep v is definitely going to withstand a hell of a lot more abuse.

when i ride, my toe cages can rub against my wheel. how do i fix this?

will shorter cranks be the best solution?

when you ride? or when you're turning? the tighter your geometry, the more likely it is you'll have toe overlap, especially if you have big feet. i run XL clips and have size 12 feet, so i just have to pay attention.

ah, i have size 11-11.5 and i have size L clips.there's really no way to avoid it when i'm turning other than to just pay attention? aw... well hopefully these 165 cranks i ordered can reduce it slightly. are there tall people who ride 165 cranks on their pistas?

Deep V is a very strong rim, I have used them beforeeeee. Looks good too but the opportunity cost is weight. In fact Mavic Open pro is one damn strong rims that I am such a heavy rider would recommend them.

DEEP V is much cheaper than Mavic Open Pro down in sydney... If i want to do some crazy street riding..i would get a set of deep v laced to a formula hub..change the bearign to PW. Now there is a set of wheels would be smooth as silk and maintaince free.

i'm riding 170s right now and i don't think i'll ever be turning to the point where i would clip because the bottom bracket is built so high. i'm about 5'11" riding a 55 pisa with 170s and the angle of clippage is more or less the same as my friend's 53 IRO with 165s. i might have to try medium cages later... oh well. i haven't really been scraping the front wheel as much as i did before...

*edit* wtf am i talking about now?

eh, i'll just wait for the 165s to arrive and then i'll see how the ride goes.

Thanks for all the help with the rim options guys. I am probably save up over the winter and invest in some new wheels in the spring. I was wondering if I could get some help with hubs. First what is the difference between high and low flange? As well I have heard that you can make wheels with a lesser spoke count in the front and more in the back to help reduce weight and keep everything strong, what would be your guys' input on spoke hole options?

unless you're on the velo, spoke weight probably wouldn't be very big issue to you. if you want to keep everything strong, just go with a standard lacing style.

for steez points, radial is fine in the front, but maybe not in the back depending on how fat you are.

quit being gram pinchers.

if you want to save weight, get a carbon seatpost with a one piece carbon seat. that will save you some weight and make you sterile.

High Flange have a bigger diameter and small flange have smaller diameter. If there are same amount of holes on both high and small flange, the holes in high flange hub will spread around more hence there are more strenght on the hub thus a strong wheels, however the holes will be closer in small flange hub hence will be a weaker hub.

High Flange = looks better than small flange.

Spokescount...how heavy r u? 3 x is the strongest lacing method. U can do this Rear 3x and front radial. And if u r really anal....for rear wheel do a 3x drive-side and radial in the non drive side.
