can you turn any regular bike into a fixie? (not like bmx)

no. you'll either need fork ends or old horizontal dropouts.

you can do it with newer frames with dropouts you can't slide in, but that typically requires an expensive ass white industries eno hub, their expensive ass bb, or one of those surly singulator things that hangs off the derailleur hanger (which will see you throwing chains or tightening it constantly). basically, just get a frame with proper dropouts/fork ends.

How much clearance would you guys recommends, from your balls to the top tube? Just barely touching or about 1 inch of clearance?

When sitting on the saddle (adjusted), place your heel on the pedal, and pedal through the bottom of the pedal stroke. You should be able to just barely keep in contact w/ the pedal.

This, adjusted, should show about a fist's worth of seatpost.

The standover method doesn't really work, some toptubes are set lower and some bottom brackets are lower or higher, making this an irrelevant measure of sizing.

i had one in high school back in the oi oi days and it got fuckin stolen. there is a 69 special in my hood for 500. needs some cable work and a bit of body work/paint to be perfect, but that fucker would be awesome.

Changing cables is easy on a vespa.... It is just regular maintenance. I always carry spare clutch, throttle and gear cables and have had to change them at the side of the road before now. Once you get the hang of it, it takes about 20 minutes to change one.

Bodywork and respraying can end up costing quite a lot unless you can drop the engine out and strip everything off and give the paintshop just the chassis for painting.

yeah we'll see. apparenly one cable is missing, so routing it through isn't as easy as taping one end and pulling it through. also needs some engine work, but i'm not sure what that might be until i see it.
