yeah seriously. better not be riding brakeless with 48.

i'm riding 46x17. make sure you can basically skid from either your seat or a little above your seat.

ooh icc, how fast do you eat your tires away?

i remmeber a thread on biek forums... full of math eq. on skid mark math.

was too hard for me to figure out wtf they were saying..

Let me get this...you people are gearing your bikes so that you can skid, as opposed to gearing it for, say for instance, going fast? Matching your location? Hell, anything other than for braking? That's what they fucking have brakes for.

No, I'm not starting a new brakes/skid argument. Really.

i think its the misconception that some ppl might have, that skids are equivalent to braking power (to some degree i suppose its true). i was just curious to know the gear ratio because i was having difficulty skidding and thought i was doing something wrong. (and i dont skid alot at all... i usually brake when im riding)

Maybe I was a bit harsh. To make up for it, I'm going to run the only real gear from now on: 53/11. Then I'll start bitching again.

save that for the drome

i ride 53x19

good for raging and skidz

im riding 48/15 and can skidz fine. but there is a problem

the other day I noticed small patches in my rear tire where i can see white threads. how soon are they gonna explode?

and for the grips, use wd40 to take them off and hairspray to put them on

once you start seeing threads, you should change it. or keep riding with it, but keep a spare tire/tube handy. i always have a spare tire in my bag. another reason why im always riding a huge bag with me. but basically. BE PREPARED

hand pump?

or CO2 cases. theyre alot more practical, but youd have to constantly buy em

i use hand pumps. works yo guns and gets the job done.

i carry zip ties with me to to tie my tires up. i carry a big ass bag because im always running errands and carryin school stuff.

but yeah, get zipties for your tires, theyre like....3 bucks for a packet with like 10 of them, and can make the tire fit in the smallest bags

btw m1sterko

you live in orange county?

goood tires are Continental gatorskins, vittoria rannondeurs

everwears suck, if im not mistaken, those are the ones with the weak sidewalls

come to the next orange county critical mass

its pretty much hipster-mania over here too

but then again, everyone that rides is pretty much deemed a hipster anyway

well

some people like carbon wheels

some people like carbon forks

but jazzay people like carbon bikes

i ride with a carbon fork, but thats the furthest ill go with carbon. maybe a hed3....but you get the point. you dont need carbon parts if your gonna ride on the streets. what you tryin ta do? shave seconds off on your trip to the supermarket?

to be honest. it may sound economical to start off with the slightly higher end components, but if you're like most people...you'll get sucked in with wanting better parts.

i would just go with the kilo tt and upgrade. or even start with the bikeisland frame (same as the kilo) and build it right the first time.

i dunno, thats what i wouldve done in retrospect.
