Removing a Design/Decoration from the back of a Sweatshirt

I've got this white 100% cotton hoody that has some writing on the back (the writing is made of the same sort of rough-feeling material you find on a college sweatshirt). I'd like to strip the writing off of the sweatshirt. Can anyone suggest a good way to do this without actually seeing the sweatshirt?
