Tailoring question(s)

Well, this thread is for me to ask a question about tailoring but if others want to ask, go for it.

Anyway,

I stopped by a thrift store today and found this Japanese school boy type jacket and thought it was pretty awesome and fits pretty well,

The problem though, it's too damn long,

Can a tailor cut it short? Like this,

dont mind the weird slant up, it should be straight but it was hard to hold it straight

Also, how much would I expect?

Of course they can. That would be really easy. It shouldn't be very much either. I would guess about $20 but it really depends on where you go.

Can a tailor alter the waist of jeans and what does the outcome look like?

very difficult, unless the jeans are irreplaceable to you and you MUST MUST wear them all the time don't waste your time or money (lots of things have to be cut and taken apart)

For the most part, I agree, but if the waist is just a little big.... you could just dart the band in a couple places and it wouldn't look too horrendous.

I agree, if its just a little loose you can take the waistband in at a couple of spots.

Figured better to bring this back from the dead than start a new one.

There is this Buzz Rickson's Deck Jacket for sale at less than half price, but it is too big in the chest by about 3-4 inches (this is the only size on sale). Is it possible to get it tailored to take the chest in those 3"-4"? Is this a pretty big deal/expensive procedure? Thanks for the help.

I actually had a tailoring question as well, and this seemed like the most appropriate place to put it! Does anyone know if tailors normally can work with leather. I havent gotten leather tailored before, and I am assuming that they dont, but I figured that I would ask!

In my search to find an answer to my question I saw questions about a leather jacket, and the general idea I got from the answers was that they do work with leather, at least some do.
