Looking to get new Suit.

This topic keeps popping up but you should probably know there's the Lad Musician for like 2/3rd's the price of that, I can't remember what else.

I would never buy a suit sight unseen online, there's just too many variables in fit in the 2 pieces you get that you'd want to chance it.

I'm kinda working my way to re-building my suit outfits too, but I'm gonna go Hong Kong bespoke this time. I want them to be on the slimmer side but with a bit more shelf life than a Dior Homme number. I bet I could probably get in at around that same price point for bespoke, too.

I haven't really checked into this yet because I haven't been pressing the suit issue, but it's just my guess that I could get a good bespoke in Hong Kong giving myself a budget of $1500-$2000, which is the same as what a Dior suit is over there. BTW, I probably wouldn't buy that black one on eluxury if I were buying a DH suit, as there are much nicer Dior suits in the boutiques, IMO.

Bespoke as I mean I go in with an idea in my head, and they flesh it out for me. I've had some shoddy MTM experiences before but I'm hoping a good HK tailor will right things for me again.

I'm not really looking for that Dior look in my suits, I was just wanting lapels on the slimmer side and trimmer trousers, think early '60's Savile Row. I think any reputable tailor should be able to give me what I am looking for, nothing special really. I'm looking for work suits, not something to wear outside of the 9-5, I do that in t-shirts and jeans.

^ a bespoke in HK would probably be cheaper than a dior. the most famous tailor in HK is sam's tailor in TST. he's done suits for the likes of bill clinton. he's famous, but there are other tailors that can do just as good of a job and they'll fit to any specifications you want. the modern suit has been around since the 19th century. there's no such thing as "trends". just certain styles are rotated every few years to make sure that the fashion industry doesn't go out of business. i got me a suit a few months ago and i was very pleased with the results. i had him bring in the sides slightly to give a modern slim look, but it was very subtle.

as for the original poster, avoid the narcotic lure of brand names. a brand name suit will mean nothing if it doesn't fit your body right. invest in a proper tailored suit to fit your body and it will last you for ages.

you're going to be looking at $500. which is basically a fuckin steal for a suit. and the fact that the guy's done suits for prince charles, jude law, pierce bronson, bill clinton, etc. he's no joke.

but i didn't go to him. i went to a place my uncle recommended and i paid about $300 for my suit. it was called broadway custom in the mirador arcade. just buy some GQ's and esquire mags and take the pictures in to show them. shit was fun gettin measured up and then picking out the material and silk lining.

when you can pick materials comparable or of even better quality than a brand name suit AND get it tailored to your body... why even bother getting anything else?

To the original poster, if you're going this way (custom) and want something similar to a dior fit, make sure you ask them for an italian style suit (which is the cut that most dior homme suits are) The armholes are higher and the shoulders are rolled.

After doing some quick research, it seems like WW Chan offers some quality bespoke suits, ranging from the 800 USD to 1300 USD. Since I'm planning to make a trip out there sometime soon (HK), I need to contemplate who to go to.

Can Landy or anyone other HK head recommend whether Chan or Sam is the go to guy in HK?

there isn't really a go to guy in HK. i'd say everyone's skills are comparable nowadays. in the 90's there used to be thousands of tailors in HK. now its been whitled down to about 200. sam has the benefit of building up his name to be the most famous tailor in HK, but i've heard things about his place being a tourist trap.

here's a good page of tips

i'd say check out sam's and these places

i'm def going to get the APC suit. cut is on point

I'm not really feeling the APC suit. I tried on the blazer, the armhole is very low, I prefer higher arm holes in italian style jackets. Wasn't really feeling the shoulder padding either.
