i'm trying to get better at not being such a perfectionist so here's the last round i submitted on an illustration piece for m. butterfly

looks quite a bit different now but it's too rough to show (butterflies in foreground are red at center and bluer at edges and everything rendered out a bit better and there's more of the face done - i put this one up also since i like the background more but since then it was deemed too creepy and now it's a desatured red / blue gradient design that i'm probably going to paint and scan to get better texture

apologize that it's not great i've never used illustrator / worked in photoshop like this before and it's hard to get shit to not look like a cartoon

what's the best way of getting that into vector form? when was at mishka they churned up the contrast and made the images into bitmaps I think. Then, they used livetrace. not for everything but atleast for some of the hand-drawn stuff that seemed to work in keeping the feel of it being drawn.

it seemed to work pretty well when they were doing it, though the drawings weren't as intricate. they probably tweaking the livetrace settings a bunch, and making the images bitmap seemed to help alot.

looking forward to seeing it scanned in.

When I scan it I make it a bitmap (normally about 600dpi) but that doesn't really make a difference with this on livetrace. When the moustache design I did was printed, I just supplied it as a bitmap, it's just as easy to print as we're only talking 2 colours and no anti-aliasing.

600dpi is pretty detailed as well. All the digital printing I've done is at 300dpi, and that looks as good as the printers can produce.

Some designs can get away with even much less and not sacrifice anything.

Nothing wrong with bitmaps as long as you've got the RAM and processor speed to work on large or complex files.

I've supplied bitmaps at 300dpi for everything i've done for print (including apparel) and there have never been any problems, I have 4gig of ram and a dual core pentium so I haven't had any problems with file sizes/layers etc on PS for a long time.

dude i fucking love that idea, same with whoever started to remove garfield from his comic strips. never seen it done with album covers.

keep going with it, i want to see what else you come up with (unless i completely missed this and it's not your work).
