no flame, but you are questioning the very essence of superfuture. to answer your question, there are many different rungs on the ladder. there is god on earth ryu (of letgoasyoulike sugarcane diary fame) who wears and treats until the arcuates have long vanished w wallet holes, vertical fading, the works. you dont have to do all that, theyre just trying things tto see what the fade is. and in the words of cmf "they are just jeans". to achieve good fades, just wear everyday or so and experiment freely with different things. put a fuckin clock in your backpocket if you think the outline will look good. welcome to superfuture btw. :-)

people here love how their jeans fade, so the fact that they are meticulous about how they fade (ie cell phones) is to be expected.

but im talking about some of the posters in the "Denim addict" thread who do special walking techniques and study this fading thing so meticulously?

like i said dont they fade NATURALLy with wash n wear?

its not something that has a simple answer or can be explained in one sentence, but in a nutshell, yes, jeans fade naturally with wash and wear. but there arecertain techniques and methods that ensure a more pronounced fade and higher contrast, which is what most people here are after.

calistyle - you're right, wash and wear is really what we're all here doing. the "special techniques" you refer to are just ways to speed up the process, which some might like to do. starching, for example (which is a thread in the encyclopedia), will help to set the creases that will develop into whiskers or hige with wash and wear. doing repetitive exercises also help to speed up the wear, which is why people like ryu and cheapmuthrfukr on the forum have nicely worn jeans - they skate and bike often and this helps to break in the jeans. squats are just the lazy man's way to do the same ;)

to answer your question, yes, this is hardcore because it's a bit insane the amount of attention people here put into their jeans, but it's the same with any obsession you have, whether guitars, cars, paintings or stamps...you start to go into the details of things to understand them more.

again, i understand you mean no harm with this, but a little more reading will go a long way here. :) give me a moment and i'll link you up with a thread that tells you more about fading and wear and stuff. welcome to superfuture!

special fading techniques? i dont understand. not washing is an old tradition, dating back to the 30s. putting shit in your pockets for the express reason of getting a certian fade(ie, brass knucks, ny shit) is stupid. starch? i dont know.

the whole point is really to show your lifestyle thru your jeans. some are complete obsessives, and it shows thru razorsharp combs and the stench of death wafting from the waistband.

Regardless of what 'technique' you implement, you should really only follow one rule:

Wear The Fuck Out of Your Jeans.

This doesn't just mean get them dirty, or wear them a lot. It means do something in your jeans other than walking your lazy ass around town. Skate, ride, nab a purse and outrun NYPD, whatever. Ryu has demonstrated this numerous times with his daily bike rides and he washes quite frequently. Creasing comes from repetitive motion, fading comes from abrasion, and washing only does you any good if you did the first two properly. So nobody wash their jeans until they have nice well-defined creases, and some good visible fades.
