It's time for me to spend $250 on another pair of jeans

Ugh! Never satisfied.. that's my problem.

I just bought some Puma x Evisu's. Decent jeans.. nothing to brag about, but I've been wanting a pair of Evisu's since I saw Jay-z wearing them (jk.. but I've wanted Evisu's since I was in high-school, and I'm almost out of university now)..

Anyways, after purchasing the Puma x Evisu's, I've decided I will never buy another pair of non-selvage jeans. The question is what to buy. I'll be honest, I like my denim, but I'm a newb.. my knowledge is limited to Edwin, APC, and Nudie.

I *REALLY* like my RRDS.. the fit, everything.. couldn't ask for a better pair of jeans. I've been eying the Straight Sven, and I *LOVE* the wash, but I'm getting sick of wearing Nudie every day (RRDS, Greycast, some random washed pair..).

I've been eying some Edwin's with the rainbow selvage, as well as a pair of APC Rescue's (don't have a pair, but I love their minimalist approach to denim).

What do you guys suggest? As mentioned, I like how the RRDS fits so no Dior or anything like that. Just a nice pair of regular fitting selvage denim.

Thanks!

I didnt like the rescues that much since size 29 was a little too big for me after it stretched to like a 31, saggy ass also. My most recent purchase were volcom dry selv. and i really like the fitting. For 130, they're not that bad, i love the fitting (very similar to RRDS).

Hi Montreal,

I bought a pair of Sugarcane 1947 2 months ago from xcoldricex drom japan for less than 200$ inc. shipping. This pair, along with my RRDS are my favorites. The fit is more baggy than the RRDS but the overall look and feel (great denim!) of the SC1947 is great.

You could probably get them from bid-service.jp for around 200$ inc. shipping.

Cheers,

Chipopo

I would buy Full Counts for $250. In fact that's what I plan to buy in the future. The 1108 model is a bit on the tight side and the 1101 is a bit on the regular/large side. The 1105 is loose 1953 Levis. I'm planning to go for the 1101. I think a comparison to Nudie would be 1108 = Slim Jim; 1101 = R Ralf; 1105 = L Frank (this is very uncertain, though). Here's why I think you should buy Full Count:

1. They have the best cotton in any Japanese brand. I know 45rpm uses Zimbabwean organic cotton too, but Full Count cotton is picked only once a year, while I think 45rpm uses cotton picked twice a year. So the cotton Full Count uses is longer.

2. Because of the organic nature of the cotton and the natural oil of the cotton, the jeans fade in the most natural way just like the old vintage jeans. Some experts say Full Count fades the best.

3. They are known to be cut very confortably when compared to other Japanese repros.

4. They are woven in adjusted low tension just like some of the 45rpm. This makes them softer and more uneven.

The price is some $205. It's pretty good. Add to it the shipping costs, etc.

As for sizing, from what I have read they shrink approx. to size, just like other Japanese denim, so you'll probably want to go down 2 sizes to account for the stretching. E.g. for a 34" waist you buy tag size 32. The inseam, however, is not very long, so it's a shame for the tall people, it's 33 I think. You can ask the Bears store to hem it using chainstitch.

I'm about to get a pair of Studio D'Artisan D1002's from Blue in Greene. Free tapering (since I really want the SD103's, but as we found out yesterday, they're too short for me) and the total price is $250 shipped to my business address to save tax. :)

If you like bootcuts those might be good.

i'd take either some rag & bones for 200-250, or a pair of japanese denim. in which case, feel free to search and figure out what you're looking for...studio d'artisan and sugarcane will fall into your price range and are most easily obtainable, i believe.

grapist,

that's a great decision you made to go with the SDA D1002. if you are shorter, the SDA D1002 will be a very nice slim jean (this is because your leg will stop before the flair gets too wide). the SDA D1002s are even slimmer than the SD103s in the thigh. they break higher up so they will make your legs look longer. since BiG will be tapering the jeans for you, you will have a nice custom made pair that no one has--and at $250, you got a super deal.

Montreal, i would buy a pair of PBJ XX-005s. i've seen dozens of people wear them and i haven't met a person yet would didn't look good in them. the fabric is beautiful and looks great even without distressing. the cut is great and modern. they are just a fantastic jean.

Those jeans may be a bit too slim for him as he stated that the RRDS were an ideal fit. In the same vein as the RRDS, you may want to track down some Imperial Kings?

I would recommend all the jeans that I have. You should check out Jean Shops. A lot of people think they are over priced at about $240, but I think most over $200 jeans are overpriced. They have two fits, classic and rocker. The classic is a little more relaxed. The denim is a beautiful deep blue, great construction, the leather label is

P-I-M-P (haven't seen anything like it), orange colored lined pockets, a sturdy ri-ri zip fly, oh and a selvage crotch (no big deal).

But for the price you should get the SC1947, probably the best bang for the buck.

maybe the xx-005s might be too slim. but they are definitely not like diors.

unfortunately, i don't think you'll find a pair of imperials for under $250, though...

Yes, although it's mainly intended for jeans bought from them. Not sure if they've moved their chainstitching machine in store yet, but they do have one. Considering that it's only $20 more to get a pair of SD's shipped and altered than most ordering services, I think it's more than worth it to get it from them, especially since they have an exchange policy, which is something you won't get from overseas.

Why not just go with the XX-003 then? Same denim as the 005, right?

the XX-003 has a much fuller cut, it's not like a RRDS at all. however, it looks good on tall people. the XX-005 looks fantastic on people who are under 6 feet tall. yes, they do have the same denim...

Oh okay. Well, since you've seen both. Is the cut on the XX-003 and the AI-001 the same?

WOW! Lots of replies..

Anyways, I would love to own a pair of slim-fit jeans, but I have a large chest and arms so even my RRDS look disproportionate compared to my upper body.

I will update you guys though. I bought a pair of Svenska's (not the actual Svenska's but this years version of the Straight Sven). I love the wash, I love the brand (I am, however, removing the stitching from the back pockets..), and I like the fact that they sit lower and are slimmer than my RRDS. Paid $155 shipped to my door.

I also bought a pair of APC Rescues. These are a toss-up. They are either going to fit very well, or not fit me at all. I paid $90 shipped, so if they don't fit, I'll just sell em and probably get my full $90 back.

So essentially, I got two pairs of jeans for $250 :)

When it comes to denim with me, I have a comfort zone and I have a hard time stepping out of it. My next pair of jeans will definitely be rainbow Edwins (unless by some miracle my chest shrinks a few inches and actually looks proportionate to my lower body).

Again, thanks for the replies with the numerous brands I have never heard of. Appreciate it!
