Shoes that look better with age...

Yes, they feel thicker. Not only because of the leather linings, but because the outer leather is also thicker.

Tom, with the thicker leather, do you find that the tongue still flops around? With my 405s, the tongue has a tendency to slide, but in the shell cordovan, they don't. It seems to me that this difference has to do with the stiffness of the tongue.

@indyowners and leathersoul

my foot measures 28 (11") cm long and 11,4 cm (4,45") wide, so what size do i need for a indy boot since i haven't got the possiblity to try them on.

thanks in advance

jan

The best benchmark is to tell us what your normal shoe size is. The typical answer for Indy boots is a half size smaller than normal US sizing.

Here's a crease on my RM Williams, they break and stretch the leather and this might be the result...

Albert-Hmmm, they slide for me on my shell cordovan ones and they're sliding for me on these as well so I don't know. I thought it was the way I walked more so than the thickness of the tougue.

Craftsman. I have 2 pairs, both leather sole. They come in composition too. I had that pair for like 7 years and finally gave it away to my shoe shine guy, who has the same foot size. After all, he had probably polished them more times than I had!

Oh - let me add, that I had gone around NYC looking for the best Chelsea boots I could find. And while Lobb's were more elegant, their loops would break. So for Chelsea boots you can actually wear a lot, I never found any other model in a store available in NYC to beat R.M. Williams' offerings.

So coming from a boot guru...Would you recommend them?

Thanks Tom. Yes, typically it is related ot the way you walk, but for some reason, the additional rigidity of the lined tongues in shell seem to work better for me. I have a pair of 4060s and a pair of AF60s which have an unlined tongue and they slip all over the place.

I'm not Greg, but I'll add that I too have a pair and of all the boots/shoes I own, I get the most compliments in that pair. (Mine are leather soled as well.) They're reasonably well made and can be recrafted many times. So, I guess that's a recommendation from me.

Two pairs of Craftsman here (standard and Comfort), another recommendation.

(I, also, am not Spartac..err..Greg :P )

Good grief this thread is moving too fast!

I'm on my honeymoon in france, and thats when you decide to drop the ultimate indies on us? Don't worry I'm not neglecting my new wife.....

Tom, they are absolutely stunning, I wish I could stretch to them right now. I'm sure they will all be gone by the time I can get some cash together. Well done with those, I can't fault the spec!

My 4060s have those holes as well. I always wondered if those holes were a defect, but I suppose it it is possible it is used to attach the leather to the last.

Correct, that's from the nail that holds the upper to the last during lasting.
