I accidently wiped my itunes library and thought it was an opportunity for a fresh start. I want to round up some new music, same styles and genres that I like but from artists I possibly havent heard of before. Whenever Im in bars and shops I hear a lot of music I like but I never ask what it is, anyways heres what i was listening to this morning before the great library wipe

best of sting and the police

aphex twin, selected ambient works

wheat

dj shadow

blur, the great escape

the arcade fire

im especially looking for some ambient stuff and some uplifting, light hearted indie a bit like wheat, if anyone could come to my aid that would be wicked

cheers

Hmmm, ambient mellow/ happy indie rock.....my specialty

Ambient mellow electronic:

Bombay Dub Orchestra

Psapp Instrumentals

Requiem for a Dream (Remixed) sdtk.

"Soft" indie/alternative rock:

Bright Eyes - 'Digital Ash in a Digital Urn' particularly

Elliott Smith

David Gray (very underrated in the U.S.)

Bloc Party - Silent Alarm / Silent Alarm (Remix) album

Saves the Day - 'Through Being Cool' 'Stay What You Are' 'In Reverie' albums

- STD is definitely my all-time favorite poppier-emo/rock band

I have about 225 GBs of music on my home computer (I work in the music biz)........and am in the same predicament as LanceP; you get to the point where you have so much shit that you can't even remember who your favorite artists are.....I will update when I get home.

light + uplifting... these aren't very ambient... some are on the bounds of power pop and dancey. hope it helps:

super grass (mid 90's super pop)

new pornographers (dancey super group)

my favorite (super post-new wave, total 80's but total fun)

(nobody listed )Belle and Sebastian?

mates of state (husband/wife drum/elec. organ duo. great harmonization. cute to verge of gushing)

rainer maria

south

low

longwave

cardigans (try and get the album Life)

the warlocks (bubblegum 50's highschool prom kinda music)

the autumns (le carillon, it comes on bubblegum pink vinyl and is inspired by 50's love songs)

maybe throw in the kinks for good measure? that was my natural progression from the beatles.

if you want a bit more moody/ambient music, well... they can be a bit darker in tone but:

m83

explosions in the sky

and maybe try some trip hop:

morcheeba

portishead

massive attack

thievery corporation

if you're interested in anymore, just list and i can probably list off of those and wean down more of what you want.

I sure hope you have all those on CD as backup... I really love that Arcade Fire album. Good choice there.

I suggest you try Califone - Quicksand/Cradlesnakes for some of that ambient "indie"ish feel. try "michigan girls", "your golden ass", "slower twin", and "stepdaughter" in particular. There really is not another band like this (that I've heard). I saw them open for Secret Machines and Modest Mouse in Chicago. Amazing is really the only word for it.

For some upbeat indie, try The Features - Exhibit A. Very catchy stuff from a band out of Nashville.

You can never go wrong with Nick Drake. I would start with Pink Moon.

Just a few suggestions. I've been into the blues/rock inspired stuff lately. Black Keys has probably been my most played album as of late. But I'm starting to lean toward a little more country/blues inspired stuff. I just gotta find something good.

If you dig the Elliot Smith, try Sufjan Stevens and Mason Jennings--mason jennings being the superior of the three.

honey, you're my religion

Even though you haven't yet expanded

To include a heaven after

Even though I have demanded it
