Thanks sid, I just started shooting raw and I didnt realise how much more control it gives you when you process. Btw, do you know of any software(mac) that displays which points the camera focused on when the picture was taken?

HDR is a beautiful process that should be reserved for preserving the integrity of the images you make--especially when you need exactly what HDR stands for...

To be honest, I've never used any software that has that function, but I can tell you that fickle focus is something you'll learn with trial and error... and a lot of fucking errors. Just don't rely on your LCD because it doesn't display the right resolution/quality unless your photograph is just way out-of-focus.

i dont get it, isnt the whole point of hdr to make photos that much more life like? either all that exposure range business is unrealistic or my actual eye balls are just too poor to ever see such a range of light in person.. maybe its irresponsible/untalented photographers who're ruining it for me?

It is unrealistic. Amateurs just can't keep their grubby little clickers away from the far end of the slider bars on the tone map settings. They love to do that shit on MAX.

John Bartlett in the West Village. Magazines are a funny entity... they ran the shittiest photograph I took of the store (and it's fucking tiny) so I'm sitting on some cooler ones. I'm glad though because it means I don't have to deal with a publishing embargo.

also here's one from a series of scanograms i am working on (ie an image created entirely via scanner) so far i've done five and they are all somewhat similar. i have to do ten and i'm trying to expand upon this concept a bit

You don't need a blanket. You can just scan your fayce.

You can put whatever the hell you want on the scanner. The "blanket" (my bernhard pullover wrapped around my head) was just what I chose to put there. I want to do a bunch with fabric wrapped around people's heads (but probably just me because that's a hell of a lot easier). It's like symbolic and shit dood (7.5)

edit: yah dino i am using the super nice expensive scanners they have in the digital media lab at my school

in a bunch of them i did have something else behind me too, but it's not really necessary unless you want it to look that way.

ah, this sounds very cool! that was definitely (obviously) a factor of my idea. anywhere i could find pictures or something? i wanna expand on my concept and looking at that would probably be helpful. danke

This is one of my few HDR'ed photos (repost). The clouds wouldn't have looked the same. But I agree, 99.8% of HDR photos are fucked.
