If you are really skinny and have really skinny legs get a pair of really tight jeans and cut them by the knee. I would do it, but I have tree trunks.

ill consider cutin something up but its usually not something i like to do, and to england i dont want flashy shorts just something a litle different, for example i bought a pair of masons yellowish cargo shorts (not nearly as brights as you might picture em) but they were expensive so im looking for something in that sort of vein

Look at the military surplus section for BDUs. I got 3 pair of swedish bdu that were ripstop for like 2 bucks. I cut a couple of them off for summer and they are quite nice. Might want to give it a try for a cheap option.

i've seen propper branded BDUs go really expensive. the surplus here is right around $20 for shorts depending on what size you get. $50 is outrageous.
