What's their cheapest jeans, and where can I get them online without buying them from a Japanese site?

You guys are forgetting that he's a diplomatic aristocrat....he's gotta have cake if he's diplomatic and aristocratic so let's not worry about price.

In all seriousness though, your best bet to get Samurai jeans is to (1) ask a friend in Japan, (2) use a bidservice (ie Celga), or (3) fly to Japan and buy them there.

Alright, I was just curious. Thanks. I'll probably buy some when I go over the summer.

Samurai is a pretty small outfit, based in Osaka. They have no trouble selling their entire output in the domestic Japanese market and feel no particular need to 'go global'. Some of their production runs number only a 100 or 200 jeans and sell out pretty quickly. They come out with new models every year and are always experimenting with something new (like persimmon-juice dyed jeans, etc.).

I agree about the shirts, though...

IIRC, denimbar told me he got some Samurai's in. I wasn't interested (i know they are not cheap) so I didn't ask how much...

Those are the persimmon-tanin dyed denim I was referring to in my message above. In Japanese it is called "kaki-shibu" dyeing.

Persimmon is a type of fruit --- extremely bitter when unripe --- and its juice, which is full of dark brown tanin, is used in place of indigo in the making of this particular type of denim. Kaki-shibu has the characteristic that it strongly darkens as it oxidizes, which means that these jeans will tend to darken over time, not lighten. Other than the dye, the material is made of normal cotton (not a fiber mix like sugarcanes).

This run was limited to 100 pairs of jeans, and as far as I know all are sold.

their shop list is on the website under "select shops." I'm not sure which ones are in tokyo, but that link gives all the info.

I haven't seen any samurai jeans in person, but from the pictures and everytrhing I've heard they are very good quality jeans. Similar to studio d'artisan, sugarcane, and some models of 45 rpm. Samurai makes some natural indigo models, heavy 19 oz denim, and some nice special editions too.

Thanks for the info. I didnt think that it was persimmon cause I remember someone posting these, http://www.rakuten.co.jp/hinoya/119698/303245/ a while back and I thought that all persimmon ones would look that way.

Also, this picture http://thumbnail.image.rakuten.co.jp/s/?@0_mall/d-stock/cabinet/00019176/img12548647.jpg makes them look a bit "woody."

john11f: "Americaya" in Shibuya or Ueno should have them. I only recently looked at Samurai's range, but it seems that they specialise in thicker/heavier denims. Most of their current range are 16 oz, 17oz, 19oz.

LFC4ever: I think the 3000VX is a wider/looser cut, and it has the painted stitching on the pocket.

Hi

Thanks for this - the ones on the link appear to be washed, but I guess I'm trying to decide whether to go for w34 or w36 in unwashed ( waist can be stretched out ) so if they are sized like Sugar Cane I guess w34 ( cos the raw size will be bigger than w34 ! ).

Hey, it seems a bit early to be asking this now but, i'm gonna go to hong kong at the end of November and I'm thinking about getting a pair of samurai's but I'm not sure which ones yet. I'm thinking between the S0500XX, S510XX-19OZ2 and S5000VX. Besides that they are 15oz, 19oz and 17oz respectively what are the differences? I've been reading up on these but havn't really gotten a good insight into these since i just use a translator to translate japanese to english and it doesnt really explain much. I've read that usually the heavier the denim the better but also that 15oz is the best weight and anything over 15oz doesn't improve the quality of the denim. What's the difference between zero model and samurai model? Fit-wise which ones would be closest to the SSDS? Coz I'm wearing a pair of SSDS at the moment and love the fit.

that link doesn't say much about the fit difference...

raw selvage, i imagine that in a couple weeks or so, many people here will be able to, at the very least, be able to tell you about the S0500xx, but until then, you'll just have to check measurements to help you out. i have a pair of size 30 s5000vx's, and I ordered a pair of size 29 S0500XXs for the denim contest. my size 30s were too big though. they measure out to more like 31 1/2 and that was after 2 hot washes and a run through the dryer to shrink them more. so I risked it and went small with the S0500XXs because i want to have to stretch them a bit so I can be tighter in the thighs and around 19 cm at the hem. they'll probably be pretty tight around the waist, but i'll wear them damp and stretch them out for a few days.

here's a pretty horrible quality picture of the size 30 s5000vx on me... man they were rock hard back then
