Last night... we got snow in the east!

Went on an epic 30km bike ride across town with my dad and Shangers

Started out at the antique market where you can find lots of copies of mao's little red book

Took a pit stop at the Bund - it's all one huge construction site at the moment. The tower in the background is the Gutzlaff signal tower built by French Jesuits in the 19th century

My trusty steed - a dahon jetstream p8 folding bike (with suspension!)

It's amazing how much cargo you can strap to the back of a bike!

Taking down the laundry... old street scenes like this are fast disappearing from the modern metropolis of Shanghai

Well, it was a big weekend in Shanghai, so it called for pics.

Part I-

Friday:

I got home late from work, so the girlfriend decided to eat at home as opposed to going out. As it is getting cold in Shanghai, it is perfect time for Hot Pot.

I got a call from You Ren saying that he and his father were doing a ride day. As they came out to see me last weekend, I decided to head back his way and do a city ride.

Part II-

Continuing the ride. As You Ren mentioned a lot of the old town is getting torn down. This part of town that we are in is where I used to live. There used to be these old homes everywhere thru here, but as you can see, they are being torn down. This is going to be a parking lot. My old apartment can be seen in the back ground.

This part hasn't been torn down yet. Still a lot of life around here. Wet market is thriving.

Made it out to Hongkou and got to see Shanghai 1933, the old Abattoir that is now a luxury mall

Toward the end of the ride we ran into this ramshackle old house. It reminds me of "The Burrow" from Harry Potter. Pigeon Coop on top.

Thanks to You Ren for taking my camera and snapping some awesome pics, as I just wanted to ride. It was a great day.

Part V

Finally, on to Sunday:

I have been working on some Christmas presents for friends and family and needed to get back to it. Broke out the Double Volante's again. This is heavy work:). Mask because I am cutting bone and wood.

Nothing like straight razors and raw denim. Razor number one Old Chinese Double Arrow, tore it down. Made some mods to the spine, the point and the tang, polished it up. Now ready to shave. Before pics:

And Finished. Now with ebony scales, bone wedge, brass pins, and nickel washers. This one is going to my friend who brought back my hones and strop from the US.

And the one I am working on now. 1920s Old Sheffield Kropp. Before:

I just started on some bone scales, with a wedge spacer. Pretty rough now, but will turn out nice if I don't break them when I do the pinning. Took most of the rust off the blade, but still some pitting. It's ok, I like the patina.

Anyway, sorry for all the pics, but like I say, it was a busy weekend.

Lazy Sunday here ... Spent the day sorting through stuff in closets & posting stuff for sale. Even the puppies just wanted to sleep.

We got out to the playground for a bit with our daughter. Had a contest to see who could jump furthest off the swing...
