When I went last week, they had sneakers. Not sure about hoodies.

Orchard just opened up on Tremont St. over on Mission Hill. It's a skateshop with some streetwear threads.

Laced: Get off the Mass Ave. stop on the Orange Line. The shop is located off the corner of Mass Ave. and Columbus Ave. It's like 2 or 3 stores down Columbus on your left, towards the South End. You gotta get buzzed in.

Orchard: I haven't personally been there, but from what my friends tell me, the place has a fairly limited selection as of now since it just opened -- but worth to check out anyways. Get off the Brigham Circle stop on the Green Line (E). Walk up Tremont St., and it's right before the St. Alphonsus and Tremont corner. It'll be on your right.

you know what, forget "streetwear". i mentioned streetwear because i thought that this forum was just about streetwear (can't blame a new member for thinking that based on the sheer amount of streetwear topics). i just kind of wear whatever, so don't restrict it to streetwear. any cool stores in general that i should check out? doesn't even have to be clothing. how about union at tremont and berkeley? how is that? i've heard good things, but haven't checked it out.

I just read an article about that store yesterday in the Improper Bostonian. Haven't checked out the store, but I was thinking of going tomorrow, depending if it snows or not.

EDIT: I was talking about Uniform. I don't know Union.

hm. could someone define "gay"clothing? or explain exactly which garments are "gay?" and i don't mean leather chaps--the uniform store sells a lot of ben sherman, for example...and i really don't associate that brand with gay men--or at least openly gay men. so, what exactly is being talked about here?

(by the by, the pizza joint next to uniform is excellent, and if anyone has the time my fiancee is in an interesting play, "flesh and bone," at the Boston Center for the Arts...also in that little plaza area, there. pluuuuuugggggg...)

they probably meant 'ghey'. but it certainly adds another level when you say that word in the context of the south end. now that place across the street, Market, is gay gay gay.

I'm not too sure about what that dude meant by gay, but I was assuming that he meant that loads of gay men shop there. And with my statement, I meant it's obvious because there are loads of gay men in the South End.

P.S. I'm not homophobic in any way.

my friend has been setting up the new Barney's for about a week now. She says it's the nicest one she's ever seen. Kills LA's, Kills NYC's. I'm not that into Barneys, but I will go just to see what millions of dollars will do to an old movie theater that I saw Napoleon Dynamite in. I know it's gonna have a massive skylight to let in natural light, and a huge greenhouse for the front window. There won't be any windows to display in just a massive fucking greenhouse. I think I heard the place is like 55k sq.ft. Of course if someone gave me million's of $$$'s to build out a new store I would probably be in a hole in Afghanistan for the next 5 years or so.

Can't wait to see Barneys.

And about uniform I meant gay meaning gay. Like a place frequented by gay men that carries brands popular with gay men that is in a gay neighborhood. No more, no less. I guess that's "irrelevant" but I'm just saying, I went there to check out what they had, and when I left I decided "The stuff is too gay for me."

Bullshit. Penguin and Ben Sherman aren't gay. What were you doing in the South End in the first place anyway?

--- Original message by lucense on Mar 2, 2006 06:40 PM

Wow.

And what do you mean "what was I doing in the South End?" I live in Boston. I go to the South End. I browse a few shops. I fix my bike there. I get a Guarana at the Brasilian market. Maybe a cuban sandwich. Perhaps I will visit a friend. Bouillabaise at Deluxe perchance? Splendid! And then to top it all off, I will buy some crack! Perfect!! The possibilities are endless! I actually used to LIVE in the South End! Yeah, no shit!! Exactly what are you trying to say? I'm starting to think YOU are the gayhater here.

I can't tell if you are a homophobe who is mad that I think those brands are "too gay" for me, or if you are someone I genuinely offended by calling something "gay." It's just an opinion. Nothing derogatory.

It's like this: Musicals are too gay for me. I like plays. But musicals, they are just too gay. ABBA is too gay for me. I mean, I like disco, but ABBA is just a little too gay for my taste. Gay people, they are great, I have gay friends, they are really cool. They are funny and sometimes they get drunk and do funny dances and girls love them to be around and they have a sharp wit. But other gay people, they are just too gay for me. Like the one guy that cries alot and just bitches all the time and wears foundation, I couldn't handle that. He was simply too gay. Sigfried and Roy, I saw them, I came away saying "that was very gay." I LOVE tigers. Tigers are awesome, I used to pray to god every night when I was little that I'd wake up being half tiger half man. I've even thought about fucking a tiger, for the chance that it would have a half tiger half man baby. That happened in India once, but I think they had to "put it down." If I fucked any animal, it would be a tiger. The girl tigers have a sexy pose when they are all lounging, and maybe I would fuck one, I like them that much. But the fact of the matter is that the Sigfried and Roy show had more codpieces than a fishstick factory, and I walked away saying "too gay for me."

That's what Uniform was like. I liked it, it was cool, it had some good items, but it was just a little too gay for me.

Thank you for your patience. And thank u Cary for vouching that I'm not a gayhater. It's just that some things are simply too gay for my taste.
