I am not a talmudic scholar, and my claim to Judaism is tenuous (daddy, not mommy) but from what I understand, God expelled the tribes of Israel from that land for not keeping the covenant and told them essentially "You cant come back until you keep the contract you made with me."

i'm living on a kibbutz east of haifa right now, i'll be here until february

israel is a beautiful country filled with fucking beautiful people. the dollar is still decent here (3.8 shekels to the dollar yesterday) and the food is delicious and cheap. the best falafel you've ever had costs about 12 shek and can be found anywhere. the hummus is a hundred times better than whatever you get at trader joe's. smoking hot girls everywhere you look showing off better bodies than most pornstars. they pretty much only drink vodka over here (fucking russians) but it's cheap and good.

supergay shopping-wise, though, you probably won't have much luck outside of a few streets in tel aviv. the prevailing style in israel is not very goth-ninja, and tends towards eurotrashy. i'm sure there are some gems somewhere in tel aviv, though, i haven't made it down there more than a few times.

right now the weather is beautiful, winter isn't actually that cold and the rain is turning everything green. the kibbutz i'm on is in a valley edged by the carmel mountains, so the view is pretty damn nice

okay so basically this country is the shit, and if you're jewish you pretty much are required by birthright (no pun intended) to at least visit here. come for a while
