I'm planning a trip to Stockholm with a friend to see whats hot and whats not. We need a place to stay (the cheaper the better i guess because we wont be there much except to sleep).

Do you guys know any good places to;

eat

chill

party

shop

go sightseeing

we got like 4 days I think. If anyone can help out and provide some information that'd be great.

Swedish knit wear is of very good quality, so nab some from Acne, Velour and Tiger of Sweden.

I stayed at the IYHF Youth Hostel Zinkensdamm and I can recommend it very much. You can book at www.hostelworld.com

It is a mixture from hotel and hostel. Very cleanly, nice staff, with own kitchen (there you can a cook by yourself) and with a own restaurant.

You can select if you want a private room or mixed dorm.

I had a twin room (two single beds with own bathroom).

It's only 2 stations with the tunnelbana (Underground) from the Central Station (T-Centralen). I recommend to buy you a 72 hours ticket (around 200 SEK) so you can drive with everything all over Stockholm.

You should see the vasa museum, the old town centre Gamla Stan and the skansen (open air museum).

to the vasa museum and skansen you can take the ferry from Slussen (you can use the 72 hour ticket there too). On this island is also a Entertainment park (grönalund) with roundabouts.

the most shops are at and around Drottninggatan. Weekday (Cheap Monday, Acne) is there (also a shop in Götgatan near the underground station slussen).

Also Urban Outfitters, whyred, j. lindeberg, topman, cali roots and many many more.

ok, going area by area:

sodermalm (south island) is the more laidback, trendy area.

take the katarina hissen (lift / elevator) at slussen and from the walkway at the top you'll get some amazing views of the city. from there you are round the corner from mosebacke etablissement: a bar / music venue. if the weather is good sit outside for some more good views otherwise check it out for the jazz brunch or for the hip hop night Yes!.

Walk back down to Slussen and you'll find the start of Gotgatan where you'll find some great shops including: weekdays (the cheap monday store but also stocks loads of other brands), filipa k, Bruno Gotgatsbacken (a mini mall which opens as a bar in the evening). There are also some other cool little bars nearby like Indigo.

East side of gotgatan and south of folkungatan is the SoFo area where you can find the nudie store, sneakersnstuff, boutique sportif and loads of other cool little shops, cafes and bars. The restaurant koh phang yang is worth checking out: the thai food is ok, but the interior is like a thai theme park or something and makes it worth stopping by.

On the other side of sodermalm is hornsgatan where the shopping is not so good (especially since nitty gritty has gone) but there are some nice secondhand shops and a few lively bars such as Marie Leveau and the bar at Hotel Rival. Not much between Zinkensdamm and Hornstul but down at Hornstul there are some nice little bars such as Judit & Bertil and some shops down by the waterfront.

North of sodermalm is Gamla Stan - the old town. Wander around the narrow little streets, check out the site of the stockholm bloodbath and the palace and feel like a real tourist. Go to ruby grill / bistro for food.

You can walk from gamla stan, past the parliament building to the city centre. You can get some really good swedish food at Opera backfickan (means back pocket) and a lot cheaper than the other opera restaurants.

Didn't mean to start an essay. Maybe someone else can tell you about Normalm and Ostermalm? ;-)

Loads and loads of places i have missed off or forgotton about.

Before i leave this a couple more recommendations:

If you can stretch to one or two nights in a nice hotel I've heard really good things about Hotel Rival (owned by one of the guys from abba - but don't let that put you off), I liked Clarion (very clean and modern) or if you can afford it - Grand Hotel.

Worth taking the eyewitness and wallpaper guidebooks too.

oh yeah I also forgotn the gondolen in slussen (katarina hissen). It costs 10 SEK to take the lift. But if you want you can also take the steps at the other end.

You really have a great view over stockholm.

Unfortunately Nitty Gritty has come to some financial trouble and is currently closed. Will maybe be back up 1st October.

Going there with my mate in january...this thread is great for places where to shop (will be doing that) however what about clubs?

I've read a couple of reviews online, here and timeout and it seems the place is full of trendy (wanky) clubs though i have to admit spybar looks sweet despite its door policies but that shouldn't pose a problem for trendy superfuture readers anyway right? haha

Are there any places spinning dubstep, techno, or any non-cheesy shit?

Just got back after a whirlwind 2 day trip to Stockholm. Best places to shop imo were the Julian Red flagship store (met Piotr (sp?), one of the founders of the company who was real helpful and friendly), PUB had gram shoes, julian red and the likes, tiger of sweden had a few stores with some sick knitwear and nice suits but a little pricey and the urban outfitters is worth checking out just cos its so different to every other one i've been to in the USA or europe.

Going out: dress well, act bored, speak english, dont get too fucked beforehand or go out with a crew of sausages and you'll get in just about anywhere. Went to Stureplan first night, most other tourists i was talking to said they had great difficulty getting into places, but we had no problem. Some places have minimum ages of 23 or 25 and they require ID by law, so no blagging your way in anywhere. Didn't get to check out the Sodermalm area at night. We found a random place where they were spinning dubstep/2step and some bassline completely by chance in Ostermalm. It was full of well dressed, late 20's people it was fucking bizarre after seeing the scene pretty much everywhere else. But then everything about the place was a little quirky.

This is a beautiful city full of well dressed, polite and amazingly good looking people. Will definately go back in the future when i have some bigger resources.

also, you can get in to any place as long as youre at least 20 and look cool. 18 years is the legal age, other age restrictions are generic and a reason to keep people they dont want out.

I was in Stockholm for 4 days last year's spring and it was great.

Going out was rather pricey and it is true.. you NEED to look the part.

i'm gonna be in stockholm from jan 18-22 and am trying to squeeze as much in as possible. everything i've read already on the previous posts sounds good and I'm definitely going to give the julian red flagship, black market, and cheap monday stores a look around. i plan on exploring sodermalm/ slussen/ostermalm etc.. i've also already made plans to check out The XX at debaser on the 19th. What I'm looking for more so whether or not theres any decent electro or dubstep nights at any of the city's clubs, which nights are bumpin at places like spy bar, or perhaps if there are any temporary/traveling shows, art exhibitions, events, or any other bizarro things that are must-see/do's.

i'd even be up for a meet-up if anyone is game as I'll be traveling alone..

stockholm was a blast. i stayed at castanea hostel in old city. it was a good place overall, super clean no complaints. id recommend hitting the vasa museum and the national museum. i enjoyed both a lot. skansen was super eerie but perhaps it was the time of year that i went that they don't get too much traffic. try to spend a fair amount of time in sodermalm, i really enjoyed that area of town. definitely hit the weekdays (cheap monday) store in slussen. there were some cool vintage shops on hornsgaten. the thai place koh phangan that everyone seems to dig was in fact a highlight place to eat. if you have any other questions feel free to ask and i can assist from what i recall..

For clubbing, you might want to check out F12 Terrassen. They are having parties every day all summer. Mostly House/tech house/techno on a decent outdoor terrace. They have a really nice restaurant aswell, called F12.

Some of the places that I've heard has good drinks/cocktails are these places:

Vassa Eggen Steakhouse

Och Himlen Därtill (with a stunning view! Age limit 25+ I think)

Pontus!

Coffee places - Sweden doesn't have any Starbucks, but we have a lot of similiar places that are kind of 'meh' if you ask me (Espresso House, Wanye's Coffee and so on)

A lot of 'espresso bars' have popped up around the city that are really good though:

I would also recommend to walk/rent a bike/take a bus and go to Fågängan. They have a restaurant at the top of the mountain but I don't know if it's any good. Instead, buy some beers and sit in the sunset and see the inlet to Stockholm. One of my favorite spots in the summer for sure.

Sorry for the late reply.. Pretty busy at the university atm, so I'll just post some stuff now and then I might add some more personal favorites later.

One decent restaurant is Strömma Kanalbar - placed besides a canal where a lot of boats go through daily. Expect a lot of luxury boats on their way to Sandhamn here. The restaurant is placed so you see the sunset. Nice food, often full so I recommend you to make a reservation here a couple of days before visiting.

Sandhamn Seglarhotell - posted this one before, but I really recommend you to go to Sandhamn for one day and then eat here. On the weekends it gets really crowded on the Island with a lot of parties going on.

Here you have some more restaurants that are placed in Sthlm's archipelago.

I have a couple questions regarding Stockholm/Sweden. I'm currently living in Paris and I'm about to book a ticket to Stockholm so I'm wondering what time frame you would recommend? I'm thinking about coming in either the middle/end of April or waiting until the middle of June. What would you recommend in terms of weather, events, and overall activity in Stockholm during those time frames? I have no issue with cold weather, but would like to enjoy the city and country when it's a bit more active. Does the weather/activity change much between those time frames?

Second, I would really like to get my hands on some goods from MTWTFSS Weekday. Is there anyone in Stockholm, or another spot in Sweden that has a retail store that would be willing to proxy some items for me? I have tried to find some info on the Weekday site about purchasing over the phone, but haven't had any luck. If you would be willing to help me out, please get in touch with me via a message.
