Iam not a follower of the non-wash therorie, neither will any of my denims ever see a dry-cleaner.the only chemicals allowed to this item are the ones i have to use at work.welding stainless you need to tread the welds with some agressive acid to protect them from starting to rust.bleaches any cloth in seconds and resulting in some nasty holes.

of course i will.its pretty hot here atm, especially when you have to weld, thats why i prefer the lighter carhartts now.will give the pikebros ones a hotsoak at the weekend,if they shrink anything i will let you know, with measurements and all.some more details: no chainstitch hem, which is not important for me.a must on most of my repros but i know too little about overalls, not sure if any originals have this.i suspected the heavy honey coloured thead to be polyester or polycore at least, but they state on their site thats its cotton.its the thickest cottonthread i came across so far.buttonfly is two small donuts only, but its no problem at all!:D to sum up my first impressions, these are a great pair of 30s-40s inspired overalls, construction looks spot on,all of the sewing looks very tidy and well crafted, denim feels very tight and shows a nice greencast.looks like the perfect piece for my work.time will tell very soon how they will stand against my abuse.

All vintage overalls (1930's - 1960's) that I've ever seen have had chain stitched hems. On the other hand, never seen selvage on the leg seams, only on the inside of the watch pocket on Lee's and Pay Day's. Also, the leg seams are triple stitched or double stitched in some 30's Sweet Orr's. Yes, I am also an overall's geek! This is just my observations so take em for what they're worth.

carhartts are too comfy right now to retire them, but the quality of the denim is awfull, they lost so much indigo and it was only wash #2.as i said, the Pikes are not a 100% repro of some 30s overall, but they are something which i searched for a while with no success, and all of sudden they appeared from nowhere.imagine my mind when i found out on monday that i could walk straight into a shop in my town and get them!

Not sure if anyone else is interested in original and great reproductions of early denim work dungarees but I recently discovered these great reproductions of the classic railroad denim dungarees worn by factory and railroad workers. The attention to detail looks pretty sick. I ordered a pair and hope to get them soon. The guy that made these reproductions also does amazing limited edition runs of other great classic work wear.

Check these. They will be out in Aug and I am definately scoring a pair. Check out the denim. I heard that cone and LVC really did their homework on these and that the denim is just incredible. These are waist overalls so I guess there still in the right place.

Check out the close ups and from the photos the denim looks awesome and plain selvage too.

I bought a pair of the Workers railroad dungarees last year but was unhappy with the thin light weight of the denim. They were much thinner than any of the original 30's - 40's dungarees I own and thinner than any repro denim I've seen. If you're going to be wearing them for welding of any work where you want protection I'd be worried. Also, they were cut with a more modern low rise compared to vintage dungarees if you care about the vintage look.

Maybe he's made improvements since I owned mine - look forward to seeing what you think.

Lee Japan makes a killer reproduction of the classic denim dungaree if you're looking for a great reproduction.

i think the workers stuff looks awesome and he is really into original detail, but the biggest problem seems to be the sizing. but i dont have any of the pants, but the shawl collar coat.

yeah and lees workpants really look great.

Hey Fardin,

You're right, he really pays attention to the details like rivets, buckles, labels and stitching. I found the sizing on the dungarees to be ok, but found the sizing on his shirts in the larger sizes to be a off and the sleeve lengths to be long.

That being said, a buddy of mine who wears the smaller sizes has great luck with his shirts. Just my luck!

cloudhands, here the link again, its all on their page.

i gave them a hotsoak yesterday, first the water became the usual yellow colour from the starch, after 90 min it was greenish, looks like they lost some indigo.after checking them today, the loss isnt noticeable at all.took some measurements before:

inseam 36,5"

hem 10

knee 11,5

thight 12,5

waist 18 ( bibs are way different from waistoveralls/jeans)

the only shrinkage was .5" inseam, all others are the same.looks like these are sanforized,i dont expect any more real shrinkage from the first real wash.if the weather is not getting warmer,i will start wearing them from monday at work.

  • 1 month later...

They still use the same buckles, but not with such cool detail.

Beatle,as much as i like wearing bibs when i am busy - after work i prefer "waistoveralls".

Anyway, carharrts are dry now and they look like after the last wash, all combs and whiskers gone but this time the knees and fly are much more pronounced:

almostnice, what is your height/weight if you don't mind telling?

i have always been under the impression that overalls only look good on big guys

on another note:

where can i find all white or all black overalls (not too boxy cut)??

Pikebrothers update

the first week in the 1935 mechanic bib is over and i am really impressed how well this pair suited my needs and protected me.after the initial soak a few weeks ago it looks like they lost most of the resin, cause the 11oz denim felt considerably softer.i treated them as real workwear so they touched lots of dust, dirt and the usual sparks from welding/grinding.as you can see in the pic there is hardly any dirt noticeable (taken today after work):

http://P1030581.jpg

so it looks like there is still lots of resin left which works as dirtprotection.

compared to my other workwear and the carhartt bib they also survived my several attempts to hurt them without any marks:

http://P1030570.jpg

http://P1030572.jpg

http://P1030574.jpg

even all of the stitching stayed intact, something i never had before, after one week of hard use there is always some thread damaged or at least one or two little holes burnt into the fabric.so iam more than pleased with them,a quality piece of vintage-inspired workwear.

I will keep you updated.
