First of all, I'm totally an Anime poser - I'm not familiar with much except Akira (the movie, not even the manga), Miyazaki's stuff and Cowboy Bebop, and I haven't watched hardly anything since the end of middle school. Recently, though, I surprised myself with how much I've been getting into Death Note - it's pretty kickass. I don't know if there's a thread already, but I just typed all this so whatever, I'ma make a new thread.

Is there anything else out there with great art that's not hyper-sexual / way-over-the-top-dramatic?

it was really good. a mechanical era mixed with period drama.
