Best Non-SLR digital camera

zeiss lens will cost you an arm and leg. go for GF-1 if you want to keep it simple. gf2 touch screen really bugs me, a dumb decision by panasonic.
what computer you use? windows or apple?

Apple. I downloaded the software and probably just fucked something up. Is there some camera formatting I need to do or something along those lines?

check out the sony nex-5 line. the nex-7 may be coming out later this summer/fall as rumored. But it's an amazing camera. You can get an adapter and throw on an amazing quality leica lens or voigtlanders for a fraction of the price.

It's an amazing camera, but it's kind of a dslr without mirror though. If mirrorless are of interest, you can also check out Panasonic GF2 and Olympus E-PL2.

The Nex-7 is mostly likely going to be priced at 1000$+.

Sony C3 is coming out as well

the m9 is good for daylit pictures. once you go above 1250 iso for any night shots, it's fucking garbage. i've used one extensively when my buddy owned one. they're not 9k hehe. more like 5k.

My friend got his for 9k and the lens 2k. I think they are more expensive in china.

His stuff his amazing though

Nope and after looking at sample pics in the flickr fugi x100 group ill pass. The image quality is horrible, much worse then my GF1. I looked for pages to find something even comparable my camera.

This the best picture ive seen quality wise.

A lot of the street shots looked off and grainy, it didnt look realistic at all.

I was really thinking about the x100, but why would they make it a fixed lens... Too bad. Looked promising. Image quality isn't all that great either, and it's way overpriced.

M9's go for a little less than usd7k in Asia.

Ive been doing some research and reading reviews and apparently the dynamic range and image quality is actually better then a panasonic GF1. Its just most of the reviewers suck at taking pictures, including the digital rev guy.

When I posted my last post in this thread id look at over 1000 images from this camera and not one impressed me. Today and yesterday I started digging deep on the net looking for more samples and reviews from actual photographers. I need experience with one though.

As for interchangeable lenses, I get what you're saying but for a street photography and photojournalism 35-50mm is all you need. If you want more range then its better to get a DSLR.

I want a Leica M9 but cant justify the price for one and my GF1 while having great image quality feels like a toy to me. I kind of want an x100 now but I think ill wait until the newer version comes out. This camera appeals to my emotions then to the logical side of my brain, its so beautiful. lol

yeah the X100 is a beauty, almost reminds one of the film days lol...

those sample images up above are terrible though, especially the black and white - whats up with the contrast?

I dunno thats what put me off, but I found a blog by an actual photographer and he had some good pictures with it. He tells me that he used to have a gf1 and that the x100 has better dynamic range and more useable ISO.

Im going to check it out tommorow and if it feels good in my hand and ill probably sell my gf1 and cop one.

koven, lmk if you are selling your gf1. :)

I am selling it but locally. I dont like dealing with shipping or paypal. I'm probably going to sell my film camera as well and a couple lenses i dont use any more so i dont have to come out of pocket.

new lumix g3 looks fairly promising. i was gonna hang for a gf3 or a new iteration on the l1 and deal with an external viewfinder, but the the built-in vf on the g3 is very tempting.. will wait for some more comprehensive reviews first.

Bought a G11 a while back and come to the realization that I just never use it because it is too bulky for my needs. I love the camera, but there's no point hanging onto it if I'm using it.

Thinking of selling and getting a S95 instead (in fact PM me if you want to buy the G11). Any other portable contenders out there?

I gave my LX3 to my sis couple of years ago, but ever since I sold my d5000, I find I need a powerful compact.

Get an LX5, or S95? I like the setup of the LX3 but having 2 LX in the family seems redundant.

Or would a X100 be better?

Hmm the increase in size and price is putting me off. Also I wouldn't consider myself well-versed, just average.

If it was a toss-up between LX5 and S95, should I just go with whichever is cheaper? I like the pocketability of the S95 but also the lens of the LX5.

id go w lx5

its pretty much better at everything.

20% larger sensor

more manual controls

larger wide angle

closer marco

60 fps exposure time

its also slightly slimmer

lx5 > s95 no doubt

n for tho 4 / 3 cameras there a reason why no "big brand" cam companies have bought into the hype.

2x crop factor pretty eliminates a full range of lenses. not much of a interchangeable system.

only company who's doing it right for that compact range would be leica and its range finders

ill be holding by breathe until something comparable to that arrives.

Not really

Anyways I dont know if anyone said this but Fuji X100 is pretty much the GOAT camera on the market right now. Only reason I use my d300s is because of the Fish eye. I love that I can shoot at ISO 3000 with ease.
