only other one I know of in the city is maxim's cakes in chinatown, nice if you need a break from breadtop but nothing that special. still love breadtop, the blue mountain coffee bun is a new favourite and the oldies like the blueberry bun, choco horn, red bean loaf and taro bun are pretty hard to resist.

outside of the city afaik there are only the viet style bakeries in richmond and footscray, probably not the type of bakery you're looking for though.

and u got me remember there's one along russell street opposite of 7-11, the taiwanese bubble tea shop, they also sell some cakes there.. . oh yes, nelayan (swanston st) some apam baliks.. oh gohsh.. i need some confections

i think nelayan have their own bakeries in melbourne, dunno whereabout. they do sell apam baliks, in 3 flavours, chocolate, peanut and cheese, and some others curry puffs, ondeh ondeh, etc at the swanston st restaurant. not alot of choices however.

haha nah I have fairly high metabolism and I've already joined the gym (getting back into the weights) so I should be fine. the spread of muffins at the last meeting was pretty epic though, double choc, apple crumble, cranberry dusted with icing sugar, and glazed blueberry. so so good, had to have one of each.

btw who has the best cincau in melbourne? the homemade cincau at rose garden bbq was nice but not sure what other places make their own.

home DHL have overnight express shipping but you'll pay through the nose for it. TNT, toll and australian air express offer similar services which should be a bit cheaper but not quite as fast (should still arrive by friday though).

haha D, I've found that companies who provide free carb-laden goodies in the office normally do so because all that sugar keeps their employees awake when they're doing unpaid overtime! hope that won't be the case for you

heh, the automatic coffee machines may be a tell tale sign too. people in my position only spend 20-30% of the year actually at the office, the rest of the time they're out on assignment so once I've finished the initial training hopefully I won't be in the office too much haha.

The post office in gpo opens on saturday til 2pm. Last time I sent an ECI document on a saturday (to London) it got there on Thursday, so I think it should be okay.

Btw I just realised apam balik is actually martabak in indo huh? Haha I was looking for one a few weeks ago and the one I tried in Nelayan doesn't taste so good. An acquaintance opened this shop called "boom boom pan" that specialises on them and I reckon they're better, slightly more expensive though.

^ indonesian martabak is thicker and stodgier, while malaysian apam balik come in crepe-like or martabak-like options, depending on whether a malay or a chinese is making it. i prefer the malay crepe option since it doesn't really make you feel sick of it.
