You can get a pair of m-audio bx5a for 169 at audiolines:

I have them and they're quite amazing, you can tell the differnece between that and regular speakers (non studio monitors).

I haven't been checking superfuture because my djing takes all my fucking clothes money :( Just got back from playing SXSW and came back here to find a new laptop bag since mine ripped!

I throw parties and DJ in Manhattan/Brooklyn a couple times per week, depending.

Currently:

Macbook 13" w/ Ableton Live 7

MotU Ultralite

Logitech G5 laser mouse (lolz)

I also have this for our parties:

Pioneer DJM500

2x Mackie SWA1501

2x Mackie SR1521z

Shit gets expensive and takes tons of time to prep but totally worth it :D Playing this Friday if anyone's around...

I know many wouldn't consider it dj'ing at all, but I am selling my numark total control. I have used it for three or four parties, worked great, just moving on to bigger and better things.

PM me if interested....

Currently:

Logitech G5 laser mouse (lolz)

No Midi controller?

nice.... let us know how villians is live..

Villains are alot of fun, I played a show w/ them at SXSW last week. They don't fall into that typical LA electro trap of playing monotonous lyric-less bangers over and over. Can't wait to hear their new shit, believe they just started recording again.

what do you use the firepod for? I had one to mic drums but it sounded like shit. The preamps on the thing are atrocious.

You aintgot no monitors? Whats a turntable and mixer got to do with sampling? Don't stop sampling!!!!!!1111111

pretty kit though. luv champagne finishes.

Question for the experienced DJ's out there. I've decided I want to start spinning and learn how to DJ. Should I invest the cash and buy myself a set of decks and the rest of the gear I'll need or should I make friends with someone who already has it, get them to teach me and see if I like it first. It seems to me it's a big investment for something I don't know much about. How did you guys get started?
