onemancunt, nice research paper, i hope your professor gave you an a for your perseverance. i had no idea you were some sort of hip hop wizard, you're like straight OG with crates of the most purest, essential hip hop music, backpack filled with exclusive hip hop stuff and big headphones around your neck.. and for a second there I thought you were just some white guy who liked streetwear.

but let's stay on topic here, so.. weren't you telling me that there is no link between jazzy jeff and jazz rap/hip hop?

onemancult is not a white guy and he's not the streetwariest at all.

And like I said I'd say early Roots is more Jazz rap.

Just wondering do any other rappers brag about bombing shit other than Artifacts?

i was jerking off just now for a sec, what happened?

i didnt tell you theres no connection, i told you the connection youre trying to make is tenuous and is much better illustrated by other artists.

i aint a crakker, im not a streetwear head, i actually dont even really like hip hop, but

afrikaa bambataa does happen to live down the block from me.

zulu war council's out, verdict says this thread needs a break before someone gets broke.

An artist can be associated with more than one sub-genre. Cult, I for one thought you would've noticed the question mark I put after Jazzy Jeff. Meaning there are probably others that can better describe Jazz rap. You pretty much wasted your time typing up all that off-topicness.

I'm done with this, I don't even listen to Jazzy Jeff that much, I just saw him talking about how he came up in an interview.

Couldn't you argue MF Doom is nerdcore for rapping about Godzilla and Cartoon Network shows? Well, based on your previous explanation.. I don't really consider Ace to be nerdcore.

I think of MC Chris or..

EDIT: If anyone has anything by "MS Word" other than the track "Smackdown" please shaaaaaare

do you not realize that the fact that jazzy jeff samples mainly jazz music does not make him a jazz rap artist? do you realize that youre the one who is trying to back up his shoddy genre associations with marshmallow fluff?

you want to talk hip hop? lets talk hip hop.

lets talk about the early days influenced heavily by disco and funk and soul, lets talk about techno happening in the midwest, lets talk about the emergence of electro as hip hop music's first true subgenre, lets talk then about the soon-after influence of electronic dance music on what was now more widely becoming known as rap music in the south giving birth to baltimore club and miami bass.

lets step into the golden age and talk about run dmc's raising hell and let's get into

the overarching power of the east coast sound in hip hop which focused on gritty soul and funk samples, lets talk about the short rise of afrocentric hip hop and the prominence of the 5% at this time in the music game, the native tongues posse bringing in the true jazz rap and gangstarr in the window too.

then g-funk comes roaring out of the west in 94, riding along with gangsta rap.

meanwhile in the south, bounce music is taking over. ghettotech is hitting up the

midwest, and heavy bass still reigning supreme down in florida.

we'll touch on def jam bringing new york city back into focus for a while, and the huge new orleans sound that hit big for a few years, and then

southern hip hop steals the limelight in the very late 90s after bad boy records sets the

stage for rap to truly become a form of pop music.

and all underneath these overarching art forms you have the bay cranking out hyphy,

chopped and screwed in texas, the short short short shoooorrtttt slew of horrorcore artists that came primarily out of new york, and disaffected white youths giving birth to nerdcore, abstract hip hop, and every nitpicking form of indie rap you can think of.

all off the top of my head. you and your poorly researched wikipedia links can eat butt.

IM EVEN LEAVING OUT REALLY INCONSEQUENTIAL SHIT THAT I COULD FLEX MUSCLE ON, LIKE TALKING ABOUT FLORIDA BREAKS SPECIFICALLY FOR FIVE PAGES.

YOURE LIKE THOSE METALHEAD KIDS THAT FIGHT ABOUT HOW

SLIPKNOT IS DEATH METAL. PLZ NO MOAR LISTEN 2 MUSIZLK.

i always thought it would be impossible to pick a favorite OMC quote but im going with this one. you sir are my favorite internet personality ever. i focks witchu.

as for SB, your genre associations are way way way off. tribe is not new jack swing. that shit started and ended with teddy riley. if you werent heavy d or black street or didnt have puff as your A&R pre bad boy days, you aint new jack swing. maybe joe public was, but thats debatable.

and backpacker started getting thrown around first probly around bootcamps rise to power. i always thought they shared a genre with wu tang, but wu got radio/video love alot more than bootcamp did. so bootcamp became the backpack gods while wu tang got their own subgenre entirely.

as for del, true his first two albums were heavily p funk influenced, but by future development he had abandoned that style. by both sides of the brain he was on some glitched out cyberfunk and was only rapping to white video game nerds. which doesnt make him nerdcore because he actually still was on beat when he rapped. his p funk style was probly a symptom of working with the bomb squad in the ice cube ghostwriting days because they were heavy on the james brown and george clinton samples. when heiro took off (also a part of the backpacker movement, i guess) he kinda went to a more jazzy (tribish) style before really going spaced out with FD and both sides.

i wouldnt know where to put def jux or anticon. def jux continues that weird side of rawkus that didnt have the appeal of a talib/mos or monch. kinda confrontational underground. people like to call atmosphere and sage emo rap. i think it works for lack of a better term but i dont use it myself. aesop is on his own shit, as is el p. anticon is pretty much not even hip hop by now so its worthless trying to jam them into a subgenre.

jazzy jeff is a shitty figuehead for jazz rap. go with digable planets or jazzmatazz. and premo as a turntabalist is quite laughable. he can put a scratch chorus together in the studio, but i saw him spin last month and the dude has the scratching skills of supergreg (#1). dude is as much a turntablist as OMC is a streetwear honkey.
