Things you actually need to pay the extra money for a Mac for:

Pro Tools

Logic Pro

Final Cut Pro

That's about the size of it. They're prettier, posier and they run Windows now so you can pose and play games, but when it comes down to it if you're not doing serious media work you don't really need a Mac.

Jermaine I'm ashamed of you for starting a thread with this title.

Apple no longer has PPC architecture in it's current line. It's not a matter of PC vs. Mac. It's a matter of software, since everything under the hood is the same.

OMC makes a good point, but closed hardware+software = better integration of applications, so Apple gets points for that.

yeah but people don't need nice clothes shoes or watches either!! apple is a computer lifestyle brand, so amazing!

i am a bit worried about security in os x generally, however i wouldn't ever use windows because i'm not that strapped for cash. apples have lots of hardware problems, but not software problems usually.

I'd neg you for that pithy comment josephr but my iPhone does not execute javascripts.

edit: (10)

i love macintosh os but every apple i've ever bought has broke and they also made me buy a $400 phone.

Sidney, MAC V PC would get more replies than MAC V WINDOWS. And yes the prettiness and visual features are a big part of my liking it, I'm pretty sure that's justified on superfuture, no?

To me i think of it like this,

If your intentions are in regards to design(graphic design, architecture, etc), video editing, presentation then go for a mac..

There are a couple programs that are almost equivelant to that of a mac.. Say for example final cut pro, Pc has Adobe Premier pro which in comparison is pretty much the same (although i prefer the interface of FCP) as FCP.

Ive used both Macs and PCs throughout my college years and i would say that both have their pros and cons.. I cant really hate on the mac because the G4 is a powerhouse, i edited my demo reel on FCP in maybe 45 mins compared to premier pro..

too many apple-z0rs.

i'm going to promote pc's cause i have one myself and have no intention to switch to mac.

personally, if i were gonna switch OS it would be linux but they ahve crappy compatibility issues so i stick with windows XP (vistas is for the mentally handicapped)

this is quite ignorant.

the underpinnings of OSX is based on darwin which is derived from unix. linux is based off of unix.

every single thing i plug into my laptop is recognized and works.

i can plug in my friend's NTFS(windows) formatted hard drive to my computer and read/write thanks to the glory of FUSE.

i CAN'T plug in my EXT formated hard drive into a windows pc and expect it to even recognize its existence.

some of the more user friendly linux distributions such as ubuntu (which has come a lonnnng way) is great as far as compatibility.

why do you choose to bitch about compatibility NOW? that was something geeks would bitch about with dos and win311. the days of weird one-off hardware and COM port drivers are pretty much nonexistant unless you're using professional proprietary video editing hardware or audio production. (you wouldn't be using a unix based system for this anyway)

now neg rep me cause i won

Yeah. I guess the replies on this thread against macs are like... anti-cool for the sake of being cool.

Oh shit. Did we just call Mac lovers hipsters? Well... you do own zerba pants... :fuk_lol:
