How do I distress a tshirt?

I have an American Apparel Tshirt and I was wondering how I could go about distressing it. Putting some holes here in there and maybe give it more of a "vintage" look.

Any ideas or tips would be much appreciated.

For fake holes, wet sandpaper it!

How about an overall distressed look all over the tee? I want to put holes in it afterwards, but I first need to distress the entire thing.

What does the bleach do? Does it turn the shirt completely white? It's a Coral coloured right now. What is over dye and dip dying?

I'm open to suggestions.

Another technique to make holes is shooting pellets into the shirt with an air gun. Just dip the whole shirt in a dye bath then after the first wash, you will some nice uneven color effects.
