I have an Arcteryx Alpha SL after selling my Marmot Minimal...the zipper sucked and got stuck all the time. Both use the same Goretex material. The online Patagonia store has some good deals sometimes too.

OO tell me about the Minimalist..it looked nice but then I saw the fit wasn't "atheltic" and I am looking for something more sleek/slim because I can't afford to size down.

Was it really bulky/long? I have a short torso..

snugglepony, how long is it? I measure my current Marmot Impulse (medium) at about 25.5" from top to bottom of zip..the Predator says 29.5" , but maybe it's for a larger size?

i imagine they're measuring a large, but i wouldn't even know how they measure, as most athletic-styled outerwear has very few straight lines, especially around the shoulder...

the impulse looks to be more of a short jacket with a packaway hood, though -- not a true rain shell, which is usually a bit longer.

Good call on sierra, snugglepony. I had the Marmot Typhoon for last season. It was good for boarding, and kept me warm. BTW I returned it when I got my Arteryx Stingray, but had it not for the Stingray I would still have kept the Marmot.

Ugh I wish that coupon would work through the weekend..I'm stopping by REI on Friday to return my jacket and they are having a sale starting that Friday so I'd be able to try things on as well...but this would probably be better + cheaper than I would be able to get @ REI...should I order the Predator from STP?

I guess its too late now anyway, but the Minimalist (which used to be known as the Minima) is fairly short, not fitted, but not boxy anyway. You'll find many shells not specifically for skiing/boarding are short to accommodate a climbing harness.
