lowrider: it seems like money isn't really a problem for you, so i'd go with chim's suggestion. if that's too far, then l.a. or tokyo maybe? if you really don't want to go anywhere...why not try out stuff at aloharag? you shop there already, right? if there's something you want that they don't stock, they may be able to get it, if it's a mark they usually stock.

I have and really enjoy wearing those boots (grey version) but they are not everyday boots. If you intend to have one main pair that you wear all the time this isn't it. I'd look into other brands available at Atelier since you seem to be digging that aesthetic.

I apologize if I came off a little arrogant. It's not that I'm rich it's just that a few things have occurred (my trip to MY / JP got canceled and my b-day is next week) and I'm a bit older than most of the posters on this board - hence further along in my career.

I would love to head over to NY and JP but my work schedule is rather hectic (hence the cancellation of my MY / JP trip in Oct.) and Aloha Rag doesn't carry a large selection of shoes.

Fuuma - I'd plan on wearing the boots 1 - 2 times a week. Why aren't they heavy use boots? Is the construction quality less than perfect? I was also looking at the Augusta side zip boots on A but their black is really more of a dark brown. The Carpe Diem boots are nice but they don't really speak to me. Would love to see what you'd recommend.

Thanks all.

many labels/designers have cool boots, but what goes for selections and availability, its pretty much individual finds. I've seen a lot of interesting ones but actually finding them is a whole different deal, online atleast.

for example Collection Privee?, Rick Owens, carpe diem, Margiela, giorgio brato, paul harnden, costume national, ann demeulemeester, N.D.C and many others have great boots but none are that easy to find. I can relate to your situation though, I have also been completely reworking my footwear selection within the last year. I only have one pair of boots at the moment, collection privee? ones I got on yahoo a while back. I'm looking to get some nice laced ones for winter.

buy what you like. i personally like those ccp boots and i see them as something i could wear everyday. however, you should be aware that those particular boots are around $1700 because they have a metal attachment.

is there a particular style of boot you're looking for? zip, laces, low, high?

Low I have a pair of 5 hole cd's that I picked up from Atelier awhile back and I know what you mean, from the pics they don't say much but in person they are phenomenal. I see these more of a boot you can wear everyday but the big thing for me is I prefer lace-up boots to zip. They are quite versatile too I might add, can dress up or down and I don't own any other ccp type brands.

Yea honestly, I would say Guidi or Cdiem would be a great every day boot. I tend to lean more towards Guidi because I would say the quality is the same and the price is hundreds lower.

The CCP's are incredible and made very well but the look can be harsh some times and there for may not be as versatile as an all black cdiem 5 hole boot or Guidi side/back zip boot.

When all is said and done though, get what you really want and what speaks to you.

P.S. Remember, CCP sizing is weird. I'm an 11 in converse and I wear a 10 in CCP (sole measures around 12.5"). Also those ones pictured have a grey hue to them, they are not completely black.

At the risk of being berated, I have a slightly different opinion of C.Diem. I tried on the 5 holes at Barneys on madison, and the new last they use looks like a comical Goofy boot from Disney. The toebox is really huge and really round. I wasn't impressed at all, and the quality didn't blow me away. I felt that the Guidi boots were a lot better shape wise.

Personally, I felt that the F/W 06 Cloak cricket boots were the most refined and best boots I came across in NY. The fact that they were heavily marked down helped alot too. I wear them almost daily.

probably the one pair of boots i will have until i die are the margiela 0/10 side zip boots i got for more than half off at maxfield bleu. not unlike those at the top of the page with a more square toe and i'm pretty sure they make them every f/w. actually i do have a pair of non-naff prada boots from 98/99 which are pretty effing reet as well + have indestructible rubber soles.

^ Guidi does several boots very similar to that.

mindtrive has one like that, and I believe_ there's a pair like that in reverse calf leather on y! japan right now. there was also a really dope pair up a week ago: high lace-up with a looong zipper in the back.

http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n52917565

edit: there's that pair.

my own boot collection is pretty sparse right now, just a pair of cdiem 7 holes and julius engineer boots. They both get roughly the same amount of use, I wear the cdiems when I want a bit more gritty look, and the engineer boots for pure sleek sex. I'd say the cdiem 5hole is a great all around boot to start with.

ro combat boots.. please drop.

wow those guidi boots are nice....exactly what i'm looking for. but fuck 800 bucks haha.

you can also go the ghetto way and buy a pair of military jump boots from corcoran. the only bad thing about them is the heel support is very hard and the front is really big and round. but they are dirt cheap second hand.

wow lowrider, you are burning a lot of money recently!

julius engineer boots are really nice and cost only half the money as cdiem/ccp do. quality is top notch. The black pair from this fw season looks pretty good, imo better than the pair from ss The crazy lace boots are incredibly cool, well, maybe a lit too cool. also these undercover boots posted by casius are gorgeous, esp love the top.

I personally think it is not so easy to pull off ccp boots. cdiem 5holes may go well w/ almost everything(well, not really everything). but damn i still need a pair of ccp badly..

buy nice boots instead of cool boots.

Those are both pretty generic words, I would say they're interchangeable in a context like this.

To answer the question the CCP zips are very well made using sturdy horse leather (zippers aren't stellar though), they can be quite comfortable if you add a durable insole (I use tacco leather insoles) but their appearance is so peculiar they're more like an accent piece than an everyday one. I'm pretty sure you already know all the usual suspects I could recommend, especially since you were posting on stylezeitgeist. I'd also look at getting something from a company making dressier shoes, some of them can work surprisingly well with more fashion-forward outfits. A nice pair of black chelseas from RM Williams could really be an addition to almost any wardrobe.

For everyday use I think a five eyelet boot would be a great choice and much easier to incorporate into any outfit compared to those CCP. Officine Creative made a five eyelet boot that was almost, if not as good as CDiems at less than half the price.

Julius have made some interesting boots this season. I have the long version of these Julius engineer boots and they are great. Leather and workmanship is top notch.

Thank you all for the information you provided. I'll address them all later today (I'm going back to bed now). Got these images in from Atelier and I'm loving these boots! They only lace as high as in the images and the top "staple" is meant to be removed when putting on and taking off the boot. This tall boot might be 1 or 2 pieces of leather (Atelier can't tell) though his low boot and shoe are 1 piece.

Thoughts? Versatile, frequent wear piece (in terms of aesthetic - they're very durable in construction I'm told)?

I can't say I'm a huge fan of M.A+ foot wear, the construction and materials are top-notch I'm sure, but the designs themselves feel like complete rehashes of cdiem/etc, pretty uninspired.

The boots posted look decent, but they're pretty tall aren't they? I'd prefer to get a mid-height boot to start out with. Tall boots are cool looking but a bit cumbersome for everyday wear.

Then again I forgot the topic was about cool boots, and not everyday boots.

Those MA+ boots are dope but I agree with Joey, I wouldn't buy 'em. I think they flare a little too much at the top and I could see that staple being a problem with a bit of wear.

joey already has a staple rammed up his ass from his wallet, so I dont think that one digging into his foot would phase him all that much...
