Patterns for making jeans

Hey guys,

This is a question for those of you who make your own jeans:

1) Where do you get the patterns? Do you buy them, or make them yourselves?

a) If you make them yourselves, how do you do this to ensure a good fit?

B) If you buy them, where do you get them from?

Also, if anyone has a good source for selvedge denim by the yard, if would be GREATLY appreciated! =]

Tito

I did a search, but I was also unable to find patterns, and selvedge denim seems close to impossible to find by the yard.

Searched eBay in less than 1 minute...BOOYAH !!

First up, despite what the yawnsome goatfuck wannabe who tried to neg me for my first post thinks - search and all the information is there ... How people are working, what they do, where they do it, etc etc. Look! Ya even get pictures in some of them. How nice is that? Then, once you've looked, I suggest you send the protanganists a pm and ask them about their suppliers, and they might be nice enough to answer with some helpful directions.

id say make them yourself if your confident enough. i made my own no experiance and they turned out ok, they need some tweaking. just analyse a pair you own then put it to paper. and yes ande's pictorial helped me heaps

I've searched too, unable to find patterns. Lots of people say destroy a cheap pair of levis and work on your pattern from there. I'm interested in this too.

exactly what i did. took a couple pairs of cheap jeans and took them apart piece by piece. from there, just make some measurements (thigh, knee, rise, etc) and make some cuts and you got yourself a pattern.

that doesnt look like selvage to me

it does have a selvage (like ALL fabric) but it is a frayed edge.. i wouldnt be surprised if this denim is 60" or wider, which wouldnt be what you want

if youre just starting out, take apart old jeans and buy the cheapest denim you can possibly afford.. dont start out with nice fabric. pay attention to details and how everything goes together and refer to that when youre trying to make your pair
