I SUCK at finding a job, how'd you get yours?

Recommended Posts

Its kinda funny that all the suggestions are connections...

Isn't the other option to simply be the best qualified candidate?

call me crazy.

being the best candidate only helps when you are able to get in front of the decision maker in an interview setting, and for that connections are everything.

As others have said, connections are everything in the real-world job market, so if you already have a job make sure to meet people you work with and make sure they remember you in a positive way. You never know when they might be the person who can put in a good word for you to get a job down the line.

If you don't have a job but know what industry you want to be involved in, go to events and meet people there. This is especially true for peopl who want to get into music, fashion, design, and things like that. Go to book signings, film screenings, gallery openings, wherever it is that the people you want to work for/with are shmoozing. Usually free drinks/food at those things too...
