Good Cigars

Recommended Posts

with the amount of cigarette smokers here, i'm sure there are cigar "aficionados" here, for lack of a better term.

just smoked a Partagas Piramides No. 2 Limited Edition Maduro, not robust enough for me.. it was nice, medium bodied, but, i prefer a thicker taste..

i love the Partagas serie D no. 4, anyone got any recommendations? and i hate dominicans.. too gentle.

backinthetrees, you don't belong in singapore man. you should be hanging out on your own limited edition island...inviting us to visit once in awhile ;)

i'm actually working on it.. a likely possibility in a decade, when i'm doing my thesis for my doctorape.

trying to research stuff now, as well as coming up with the appropriate theses, etc. you know, setting operational shits and parameters and perimeters. : )

wanna grow natural indigo? hit me up in 10 years. heheheheh

Davidoff smokes on the island?

Montecristo #2 f

Agree that Dominicans are unimpressive, tried Fuente (Hemingway series) a few times and thought it was too mild.

davidoff cigars are at the hyatt.. cigarettes are pretty much everywhere? i know you can get davidoffs at pretty much any petrol kiosk.

ive got a couple of montecristo #4s.. nice cigars.. nice big flavor with lots of smoke.

Dominicans pretty much suck.. unless you want a REALLY mild cigar. even the color looks pussy. hahaha

Don't be so hard on Dominican cigars...

Just because they're subtle, doesn't mean they suck.

Carlos Torano Reserva Selecta's are excellent, one of my favourites.

I prefer the Robustos, as they're a bit shorter but pack a bit more flavour than the Torpedos. I recommend you try them out. They're def mild, but theres alot of dimensions to these that alot of in-your-face cigars lack.

In actuality, Carlos Torano was Spanish born, Cuban raised.

He was one of the largest tobacco growers in Cuba before Castro nationalized the tobacco fields. He then emigrated to the Dominican Republic to produce their cigars. After growing for a while they took their focus from the growth of tobacco to cigar production, and the tobacco is now grown in Nicagragua and Honduras

My family’s history in the cigar business dates back to 1916. In 1916 Don Santiago Toraño emigrated from Spain to Cuba. Santiago became involved in tobacco as a broker of leaf tobacco. Over the years he was blessed with having three sons, Jaime, Jose and my father Carlos. All of them became involved in the tobacco business. Over the years, the Toraño family became one of the biggest and most well known growers of Cuban tobacco leaf. By the time of the revolution in 1959, the Toraño family owned and operated approximately 17 farms throughout Cuba.

After the Cuban government nationalized the tobacco farms, my father, Carlos Toraño, took his passion for tobacco to the Dominican Republic. Still today, growers in the Dominican Republic credit my father with introducing the Cuban seed to the Dominican Republic and teaching the farmers there how to grow what is today known as Piloto Cubano. After my father’s early and untimely death, I continued the family business, but expanded it to growing in Nicaragua, Mexico and Ecuador.

thats def true, its more, delicate, i guess?

you're able to taste the lighter notes in them, e.g. had a cuesta rey centenario #5 the other night, was able to taste the more subtle almond notes..

though i'm more about big flavor than anything else, thick tastes with full rounded woody/nutty punches.

i'll look out for those carlos torano's tho.

i just wish cigars were cheaper here, and did not have such a snooty air about them (here, contextually speaking)

Honestly, this is still the best cigar I have to date with the Padron 1964 coming in a close second.

The '26 is just a great full bodied, very easy to draw cigar that has some lovely chocolate and coffee notes.

As for a more everyday smoke, I like Ashton's VSG for a full bodied, night time smoke and for a lighter, mid afternoon, a Macanudo can be pretty satisfying.

I was totally about to plus rep you for this until you mentioned Macanudo... like licking cat butt. Those padrons are wonderful though. The torpedos (6000 series?) sells for like $5.50 at my local guy. Amazing price.

lol. Yea most people don't like Macanudo, but I guess I have an appreciation for them because that's what I first smoked when getting into cigars, so I guess it's somewhat nostalgic.

Oh and a little bit ago I had one of those Soprano editions CAO's and it was actually quite good.

^^ Where are you from that you have that cigar depot near you? Cigars International just opened up a warehouse store by me up here in PA... freakin biggest cigar store I've seen in my life.

reviving thread.

Just smoked a padron no. 2....I think it's overrated. I've had people tell me it's the best budget cigar but it was too...bland and bitter for me. Maybe i'm just not experienced to note the subtleties but my first impression was not that great.

Can anyone recommend any cigarillo's? Smoked cafe cremes for a while but i'm looking for something new...under 10 bucks a tin preferably.

doubt this will do much to revive this thread, but i'm loving the following:

Punch Champions

Carlos Toraño Exodus 1959 Robusto

Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story

Arturo Fuente Work of Art Madure

Partagas Presidente ISOM

sidenote: i'd like to reach ultimate douchebag status one day where i could just puff on a cigar inbetween my 15 minute breaks

picked up a couple padron 5000's....heard it was a good everyday cigar but I was a bit dissapointed. a bit too bitter for me, but maybe that's because i'm not experienced enough to notice the subtleties.

the padron 2000s and 3000s are much milder, i consider those real nice everyday smokes

am not big on cigars, but went to cuba recently so thought i'd try some out.

montepetitrob-250.gif

my favourite was the montecristo petit edmundo - perfect size (the regular edmundo would've been too much for me i think).

the cohiba ones i tried were decent too, but more expensive in comparison.

thread resurrection

recently been loving these short fat smokes

Nub_cigars_generic.jpg

shorter length higher gauge cigars are great...burn slower, more evenly (unless the gauge is reeeeally huge) and produce such a good volume of smoke.

sosa's are also a delicious choice...and a member of the ashton family

sosacigars.jpg

philly is actually a huge cigar hub, we have over ten different cigar-specific stores in the city (including holts which is massive) and then in lancaster you have cigars international. plus all the ashton brands are owned in philly, i think.

any other sufuers into cigars?
