Altering/Tapering S5000BK

Recommended Posts

Hey SF

I have been having some size issues on my s5000BK's. I purchased these from self edge in a waist size of 34 inches. The waist fits like a dream, and my only complaint about these jeans is the size of the leg opening. I am currently wearing a pair of the S0500XX (texas cotton) sammies in a size 34, and I prefer this fit over the fit of the 5000.

My question is: how would i go about altering my bk's to match the shape and measurements of my S0500xx's? Would i have to tell my tailor to taper them starting at the waist, or would i go from the knee down? I have used WASHED measurements from 2nd (via rakuten.co.jp) and i have made a table (posted below) so you guys could see the very minute differences in sizing.

all measurements in the table listed below are in INCHES....and ANY HELP at all would be appreciated. I know we have some great people on this board who make their own jeans (tg76 and Ande Whall come to mind)...so whatever help you guys could provide would be swell. Thanks in advance SF.

EDIT : ON TABLE IT SAYS 'VX'...I LOOKED AT BK MEASUREMENTS...JUST A TYPO =)

if you want the leg opening to be similar to the other pair, just take in both pairs to the tailor and tell them to taper the 5000bk's from the knee down to the same leg opening. i had this done with my Slim Jims to be slightly tapered. easy job for tailors, they'll just take the seams apart and take in however much you want them to taper them...if you wanna keep the slevage the way it is, they'll take it from the inseam instead of outseam, etc.

wear thicker underwear! And ditto the knee down. I want to taper my samurai after the contest is over... 6 more months baby! Hell, by that time I might just get some new jeans!

I had the same question about my Flathead 3003. I like the fit above the knee, but the leg opening is just too large. It currently measures 9.25 and I would like to take it down to about 8.25. However, the knee measures 9.5 and I'm worrried that it would look funny to have an 8.25 inch hem with a 9.5 inch knee. Is it possible to taper the jeans starting at about the knee, so I could get the knee down to about 9.0 and the hem down to 8.25? Or should I just accept the fact that the 3003 is a looser-fitting jean and wear them as such?

i know you guys are talking about much bigger leg openings, but i've been thinking about tapering the leg opening of my skulls from 7.5 to 7. i'm not sure if i should have the tailor start from the knee, or higher up. :-\

this is my problem as well man, i dont want to have them taper from knee down

and have them look like cavalry pants, with a visible bunching at my knee, and then be slimmer from that point onward

if that were to happen, the a good pair of 300 dollar jeans is fuct...mabye i should sell them?

bks and skulls are straightlegs... if u taper them, they will be tapered

companies sell tapered jeans... are the criticized? no (to an extent).... taper them to fit, otherwise youll continue to complain on the internet... problem solved

hey genius

im not complaining, im REQUESTING help in a civilized manner...but apparently you cant see that, and instead of answering my question...you accuse me of complaning

no shit companies sell tapered jeans, im wearing a pair of S0500XX's right now, but how many companies make BLACK, 17OZ, TAPERED jeans with samurai quality?? --> NONE

so instead of trying to unecessarily up your post count, try being productive and help me out like others did...im not asking stupid questions or complaning, i needed some help, and this is the place to ask, I didnt need advice to buy new jeans.

I wouldn't want to fuck with my japanese denim by tapering them. Remember, unless you go to someone who can chainstitch, you will not only lose the hem chain stitching but the inseam also has some on it, doesn't it?

Then there is the fact that a tailor will probably not use 100% cotton thread, whereas I thik samurai do. I dunno it just seems a shame to do that to some really nice jeans.

I think Polyrock was saying how his contest sammies shrunk more and more after three washes, although it might have been some other sammies..... check the samurai threads because it's there recently somewhere.

If I were you, I'd just grow to love them as they are.

edit: I just noticed you are selling them....

hey, I've been thinking about the same thing, but I have two questions...

1. How much will it cost to bring it to a tailor?

2. How do you measure the leg opening? Is it just to measure from one end to the other while it's laying flat (= half the "real length")?

That would depend on ur choice of transportation....cab, bus , subway...

2. How do you measure the leg opening? Is it just to measure from one end to the other while it's laying flat (= half the "real length")?

You hold your Jeans with both hands. Above yous head. Hold still.

Try to poke ur nose into one leg. If it fits in, your leg opening is smaller than 11....

If you're not able to poke ur nose in, your arms are too short...

1) most tailors will typically charge you anywhere between 20 to 30$ ... its not a very difficult job, most tailors can do this with their eyes closed.

2) lay the legs out flat, measure from inseam to outseam, double it and you got yourself the leg opening. alot of times the measurements you see on websites is the measurement when its laid out flat.

and really...i dont see why people are freaking out about this. the guy spent alot of money on jeans and he happens to not be happy with the fit. its not a crime for some one to alter their jeans to their likings.
