I've been hearing some horror stories lately of people not receiving international packages containing perfume/cologne due to certain mailing regulations on combustible or flammable liquids.

Sending/ordering cologne within your own country is usually safe (although not always allowed), however, shipping internationally means that a customs form will have to declare the contents, which can lead to problems at the border. The Canadian Border Agency (or whatever its called) has recently seized and destroyed fragrances that had been shipped from outside Canada...in this case, the UK.

Be cautious when ordering from overseas, etc....do your homework, and if necessary, use Fedex or another courier that's willing to guarantee the shipment will arrive, regardless of the contents.

I've had a package sent from Italy sitting in customs for the past week...I'm either going to luck out this time, or get a nasty letter saying my precious bottle of Serge Lutens has been destroyed...or worse...being worn by an unattractive Canadian custom officer. :(

looking for a new summer fragrance and i sweat quite a bit during the summer.

any recommendations?

My summer staples are Diptyque Philosykos and Idole de Lubin. The former is a decadently pungent fig and the latter reminds me of rum and cigars. I've found both to have the complexity and richness of colder weather scents, while still being light enough for summer. Idole de Lubin mixes well with sweat too. Many L'artisan's are also fine summer choices.

Cold weather is back in town here, and its that time of year to bust out long forgotten staples. I splashed on some good ol Gucci Pour Homme today and it reminded me what an utter masterpiece this is. Is it being discontinued? I have no idea why it didnt succeed. Perhaps my favorite cold weather fragrance behind Bois du Portugal and Ambre Sultan.

in a months time in australia, yes.

Lucky you...I agree with headcoat that L'Artisan stuff is great for summer (a lot of them anyway...check out The D'un Ete), if you don't have access to that, Bvlgari's Eau Parfumee de The Verte (Extreme version) is very nice. Declaration by Cartier is a good all-year fragrance. Divine Bergamot by The Different Company is what I usually wear in the summer. You can never go wrong with Eau Sauvage by Dior, which is cheap and readily available.

I just received samples of both CDG Luxe's and i have to say Champaca is excellent. For anyone who has smelt the champaca flower, the fragrance is dead on, the fragrance is a great floral and green scent with a little bit of spice thrown in. Patchouli is definitely not my cup of tea, to me it smells like a chinese herb shop, with strong notes of ginseng; hints of vanilla come through after the fragrance has dried down. if i were to buy one of these it would have to be Champaca which would be good for summer

...but would you drop $265 on it?

I have to put a big MAYBE on that, this is the only floral i've actually liked and would see myself wearing over and over, but that stupid 265 price tag is a huge turnoff.

Also, 45ml would last a fair while, one spray could easily last me a day. i put a tiny bit on my wrist about 5 hours ago and its still with me.

That's big bucks...just to give you an idea, its almost $6/ml...Serge Lutens Exclusives area around $3/ml...proxied and shipped to the US. I'm sure its nice...buuuuuuuuuttttt.....

I am trying Dzing! today, this shit is crazy.

It has a strong animalic component that is almost too much, but it is somehow appealing.

Not sure how often I could wear this, but it is one of the most interesting scents I've ever tried.

Its been described as the smell of a circus...animals in cages and all. It'll take some getting used to, but you'll be hooked...be careful. ;)

I read about that, and I thought come on, it couldn't really smell like a circus, but it does... unbelievable that she could capture that so perfectly. I don't even like circuses but this is a seductive scent.

Have you tried Olivier Durbano Black Tourmaline? I found that one pretty interesting in its development, though it has no animals ;) The initial cloud of smoke was a little strong, but after that there were some nice stages of evolution.

I have not as of yet...but its getting a lot of press lately.

Are you generally interested in animalic scents?

Despite the logo, I dont think the circus comparison is fitting for Dzing, as I associate circus smell with elephant turds. It smells more like the fur on a dog whos been sitting out in the sun all day, but in a good way.

Amazing how many modern classics this lovely lady has already created.

I don't know, I am just starting out, I like a lot of things. I am trying to take it slow and experiment.

I keep trying her fragrances; I really wanted to like Philosykos but it wasn't good on me; what little stayed around after an hour turned sour on me. Fou d'Absinthe also didn't work for me. But Dzing! seems to be a winner. She has my respect for sure.

^ She has many wonderfully crafted scents...but as of yet, none have suited me. Her style is very similar to Jean Claude Ellena, and I tend to prefer his take on things.

Tangerine - have you tried Rose Poivree yet? Very unusual...one of my favourites.

I just bought a bottle of Sarrasins from Serge Lutens, and got samples of most of the rest of the Paris line. Very impressive in terms of "uniqueness". Like nothing I've ever smelled before...I can't believe I waited so long to try them all...I guess only being available in one store globally set a few boundaries. Iris Silver Mist and Tubereuse Criminelle are next on my wishlist.

Yes, I received it (finally). The actually won't ship outside of Europe, so I had a lady in Italy purchase it for me. And no, you get no samples...ever (well, sometimes you get makeup I think). If you call and ask really, really nicely, they'll send you a little book with dots of wax that smell like the drydown.

FYI - the bottle on the right is 800 euros. ;)

man, that Sarrasins bottle is nuts!

I haven't tried the Rose Poivree yet; I have not tried any rose fragrances yet because I think I don't like the smell of roses that much; I sniffed some Le Labo Rose 31 but didn't put it on.

I have a sample of Opôné that I will get around to trying eventually; that is Olivia's creation as well, I believe?

I don't have the 800 euro sarrasins btw...mine is the one on the left.

Rose Poivree is really nice...and you don't have to like roses...

Opone is okay, but not one of my fav's. I'm not sure if its one of Olivia's...doesn't list it as hers. Have you tried L'Ombre Dans L'Eau? That's another "easy" rose.

You are a wealth of information, thank you! I will try L'Ombre Dans L'Eau, haven't so far.

Here is an article that credits Olivia for Opôné, but I haven't seen her credited for it anywhere else so I don't know.

Well if Victoria says its so, then it is! She's one of the most knowledgeable people I've ever come across on the Internet (although a bit overly poetic in her writing).

The scent she did for Andree Putman is also quite beautiful, although very fleeting and light. Its similar to Angeliques Sous La Pluis by Frederic Malle. I wasn't crazy about the Hotel Costes scent, but others seem to love it. Very heavy and spicy. Beautiful bottles too...they almost match each other.
