The Few is the high end arm of RMNZ for the Japanese market. RMNZ is for the rest of the world, the Few is for Japan. There are lots of options that are only availble on The Few jackets, even though they are the same company.

Well, depending on how authentic Marc Jacob is trying to be, yes. They are puffy in the sense that the arms are not nearly as fitted as the body is. Most of the time you don't notice the puffy arms because the jackets are being worn oversized and the whole thing appears "puffy".

I'd be curious to see some pictures of Marc Jacob's MA-1.

Thanks!

yeah im kindda going circles on all these company i just went for the cheapest

All of them are "good" - and you will be happy with the jacket. The first flight jacket I got was a US Authentic brand G-1, which I had sold off and flipped for a RMNZ M-422a in less than 3 months. By going for one of the tier 1 companies right off the bat, you are sure to be happy.

Thanks jake for all the info. Price wise, it looks like Good Wear makes the most sense, being in the states. But I guess you couldn't go wrong with either. I think you' re right about the Buzz nylon jackets. They are pretty cool for the price. I have a Gibson MA-1 and a WEP ripstop cammo, and are 2 of my favorite jackets.

My pleasure.

When I bought my RMNZ M-422a, the exchange rate was rocking, and the jacket was only $565. Now it's over a grand, at least the last time I checked.

I can pretty much guarantee that if you get a Goodwear, and let John know about how you'd like the jacket to fit, and give him all the data he asks for, you will love what he makes you.

Do you have the regular or long BR Gibson MA-1?

^^I have the regular MA-1. I like short jackets, even though everyone at work raggs on me. But they wear over sized clothes that look like shit, so I think we're even.

It actually looks more like a jacket called the L-2A - which was an early 50's Korean War era light weight (non padded) flight jacket. The Air Force flirted with blue nylon jackets, reverting to green, though sage, not olive, after it was determined that shot down pilots in shiny blue jackets weren't camoflauged. But as a copy of an L-2a it's pretty accurate, at least in the broad strokes. The waist knit should be blue, but other than that it's pretty accurate.

thats some interesting history behind this jacket!! good info. i guess im still on the fence with it considering larger arms. the rest of the jacket fit pretty good. fit pics in a few days hopefully.

Here's the Buzz Rickson version. Here's one from the Korean War. And here. And...here!

And if you notice, the arms aren't all that form fitting here (keep in mind they are wearing a flight suit over clothes and their jacket over all that).

^ I think that the big arms is just part of the design. If you can't get used to it, probably just have the sleeve ends tapered and then they won't seem so baggy.

Love RMJ jackets.

i'm looking to pick up a semi-high quality black ma-1.

any recommendations?

How much are you willing to spend? In terms of what's out there, all that I know of are the Alpha ones, which are puffy and in my opinion, not great, and the Buzz Rickson William Gibson collection ones, which are pricey, but dope (and also less puffy and warmer).

It's got the rust knits indicative of an Aero alright, and with that dark (maybe it's just the pictures) seal brown leather, it looks a lot like a re-dyed jacket, which was common toward the end of, and post, world war 2.

Fits you well.

Congrats!

thanks jake how do i maintain these? should i put oil? i just put a little mustang oil innit

That jacket shouldn't require anything for a long time. Pecards and other treatments are for old, dried out leather. Horsehide can handle getting wet, just don't let it dry under heat.
