I agree, this should be a favorite Director soundtracks. I like Wes Anderson's movie soundtracks as well as Wong Kar Wai. French new wave soundtracks are pretty neat, I've liked alot of (of course) Godard's movies which're littered with neat jazzy sound (much like in Wong Kar Wai's movies).

I wonder what kind of music Shakespeare would be coming out with if he were living in this day and age... he seemed to me like the Quentin Tarrantino of his era.

I'm more partial to scores as opposed to soundtracks, which are often compilation releases of songs in their original & full form, not how they appeared in the film. Or in some cases, i.e. Kill Bill, didn't appear in the film at all.

Anyway, for scores, just about anything by Ennio Morricone.

Standouts being,

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Bulworth (original score, not the soundtrack)

The Big Gundown

FYI, I believe he's up for a lifetime achievement award at the Oscars on Sunday.

completely forgot about the judgement night soundtrack. this really did unfortunately start rap-core huh? great pair ups though.

singles also had smashing pumpkins drown, state of love and trust, alice in chains, etc. this was the definitive "grunge" soundtrack
