That should last you for a while haha. But seriously the best way to learn how to use yr mac is to just...use it. Try doing an assignment or a project or sth...it'll force you to familiarise yourself w/ yr machine. It's all pretty intuitive after a while.

Hope you enjoy yr purchase :)

dont wanna read past posts but how much does student discount give you off?

was it 15% or 20%??

i only got 10% but it might differ with different products....just go to the apple store and there should be a link on the left hand side somewhere which takes you to the education store and that will have the prices of everything with the discounted price

Is microsoft office for mac worth getting or should i just download neo office...

I have no experience with neo office but if you can get Office for Mac 2008 from your university or for free then i think you should go for it. I still think MS Word is a better app than Pages, although Keynote does give Powerpoint a good run for its money.

There's Open Office in Beta. I'm using it on a daily basis and it works well. Get Microsoft if you can get it for free, it's not a bad product. Neo Office is kinda slow on my macbook.

Not sure if you want specifications or what but I think the MBP speakers are louder than the MB speakers (I own a MB but that's my opinion). If you are doing any sort of audio work you probably want a pair of monitors/external speakers though.

I'm waiting for the new macbook pro to come out...

But can someone tell what's the quality of the speakers of the current version?

Thanks.

MBP speakers are good enough to listen to music while travelling or not at home, but macbook ones are ... not good at all. Just good for the system notification and stuff.

But like RobZ said, you're always better off with external speakers.

If it is to show youtube videos to friends, even macbook ones are okay. But for project video or more serious stuff, the speakers are going to be too weak i think.

Just an other question....

How is the quality of the souds with earphones on?

I have Shure e2c and shure se 530???

Thanks...

I think that would depend more on the type of headphones you're using, and the sample rate of watever you're listening to.

I'm no audiophile but i think that's the general rule haha.

Well yeah i know.

The se530 are one of the best earphones in the world but it asol depends on the plug and the chip...

So if somebody that would be cool.

On some of the earlier MBPs there was a problem where there would be a slight low hum when you plugged in headphones or external speakers, however the newer MBPs don't have that problem anymore. I believe Apple said it had to do with improper shielding.

I have an MBP from december of last year and it has a slight hum with the standard cheapo apple earbuds, but when I use my 150ohm Sennheiser 595s there is no background noise at all.

As far as SQ goes its pretty damn good.
